I'm thinking of purchasing the Priv (currently using the Passport) and my question is, should I buy it from my carrier (Telus) or buy directly from Blackberry?

I will be buying the phone outright. Pricing aside, is there a difference or an advantage of going one way over the other? How will warranty work?

Any insights on this or people who have experienced both would be great. People in the Canadian market may be more helpful.

    Thanks!

Warranty is handled by the "company" you buy the phone from.

BlackBerry does not sell direct to consumers... shop.BlackBerry is ran via Digital River, and their support history has been kinda hit and miss based on the post around here.

But I'd just check pricing at both. Sometimes shop.blackberry.com does have specials going on that the carrier might not.

If you like to jump between the carriers, better to buy it unlocked from BlackBerry itself.

If you like to stay with the stay with the same carrier then feel free to buy from the carrier.

I am also with Telus (for the moment). I bought my Priv directly from Shop BlackBerry instead of Telus to get the unlocked version and wireless charging. Also, the unlocked version gets updates a week or 2 more quickly than the carrier version.

Buying unlocked is said to be cheaper for the long term. But obviously buying through a carrier will cost you less in the short-term

Correct. The Canadian carrier models do not have wireless charging. The unlocked model (STV100-1) from Shop BlackBerry does. It doesn't come with the wireless charging pad, you'd have to get that seperately.

This is one that I bookmarked from one of the Priv wireless charging threads here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...UvbUpU12349377

I'd skip both of those options and buy it from Amazon.

That's not an option for us Canucks. Amazon Canada doesn't have it; Amazon US won't ship it to Canada. I tried.

No worries. There's no reason you would know.
