In the past I've deleted some of the verizon pushed books. They always come back when you reboot anyway. So why bother? I wouldn't suggest deleting service books, just my opinion.

yes, you need them for most parts of the phone, like email and web, to work. they are carrier pushed periodically to ensure proper functioning of the phone. if you want to mess things up, delete them. however they will come back as stated when the system resends them or the phone is rebooted. but why would you anyways?

There is no problem if you don't want to use data services.
Service books are used by you to connect with your BIS account.
Sometimes you need to reinstall the service books on your Blackberry (for example when you use a Blackberry with another carrier).
