So some pretty interesting things happened today, my dad who is always jk around about me having a blackberry device actually wants a passport.
This how it happened, with all the passport news out today, I started watching the video, and he was asking what it was he had first believed if was a tablet but I told him it was the new blackberry device coming soon. I explained it had a HUGE Battery, and four speakers. And he said it has to be mad expensive, and I told him not necessarily it might be like a normal phone 600$ maybe.

And he told me that he might go for it, that he is going to but it, hope he really does.

I have my money ready as soon as a factory unlocked version is available. I am buying one the day it's released on the online Blackberry store.

Tell him he should get you one too, since he wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for you watching the video.

Haha that's not going to happen! And I'm waiting for a full touchscreen phone!
I hope the wait won't be so long.

I doubt it'll be $600. This is high end so will likely be $999.

After having the Z10 and Z30, I really want a new touchscreen from BlackBerry too. I was surprised by how great the touchscreen experience is on a BlackBerry.

I'm hoping it's not more than $600 but I have a feeling it will be. Let's just hope it's not more than $650-700. Even at that point, it'll be a put-off for many people who are genuinely intrigued but still on the fence about it.

Speaking from Canada here, virtually every flagship from any company launches at exactly $699. I'd expect the Passport to be the exact same.

No way. $699 tops, I'd say. BlackBerry isn't dumb enough to list this at $999.99.

Sean, young man, we are talking BlackBerry here . Never underestimate the insanity of their pricing but I am hoping you are right. $699 full retail seems about right.

No one has an idea how much a series of capacitive keys will cost. If they ramp it to 999usd it shouldn't really be a surprise.

Yes it should. The goal is to return to profitability and delivering a product that prices you out of the running is insanity With all of the other pricing missteps, and subsequent write-downs, one would think BlackBerry would be cognizant of the fact that they need to get this right. 1 grand is not going to move a lot of units...and you know the rest. These products need to be competitively priced while still providing a profit. Tell me another top tier phone that sells for $1,000 full retail.

I understand that this is new technology so I don't think people should expect a cheap device also coupled with the fact that this is the most "specced" out BlackBerry to date. But like someone above pointed out, it will be unheard of for BlackBerry to price this above other flagships on the market. Only way I can see that happening is if BlackBerry is targeting only well off people and as such don't expect to sell that much and so limit production and sell the units produced at a very premium price but with all the attention the passport has gathered, I doubt that would be the case. My prediction in the UK is 450 - 500. I don't think I will buy it at that price though. I would be better off on a contract.

Another interesting thing is how they will introduce and scale up. Will it be like Z3, cautiously traded country by country or a big bang?

And will there be any real world marketing efforts or hushed under carpet?

I am hoping Mr Chen and the marketing folks are smart enough to price the device so it will sell. I feel 499.00 US is the magic number for me.

No company in it's right mind will price it's phone more than $700 unless it's a limited edition. Considering it's BlackBerry which needed as much attention as possible. It will priced within reasonable reach of average consumers to generate the buzz without jeopardizing it's bottom line.

People have to remember that BlackBerry is going after corporations so higher price would not be out of the question for what is supposed to be a business phone.

Pricing wise, it won't be $999 as there was already evidence from third party dealers in Europe (independent of carriers) were listing it at $900 dollars with VAT included (~22%). So if you go through a carrier in NA, without VAT I could see it in the low 600 range. What I would really like Blackberry to do is to price it VERY AGRESSIVELY (~500 to 550). Forget the flagship phone nonsense and get the damm thing in people's hands. An extra 50 dollars a phone will not make or break Blackberry as their future is heavily tied to BES and its associated services. Blackberry needs more market share or there will be no handsets to speak of.

Hopefully that was the OLD BlackBerry before the new Chen vision.. and hopefully he understood the previous mistake! (a lot of "hopes" here lol)
