BlackBerry OS 4.5.0.37 Released To RIM Partners

BlackberryuniverseforpartnersIt seems like RIM has returned from WES with some real action plans. They have just released BlackBerry OS 4.5.0.37 Bundle 52 to their BlackBerry partners. This is promising news since it usually means that the official OS 4.5 release is not that far off.

Just in case all of you wanted to know. The new OS 4.5.0.37 had a version for all GSM versions of the 8100 Pearl series, 8300 Curve series, 8800 series, AND the 8700 series. I was surprised when I read about the 8700 series being included but I guess it is up to snuff.

Nothing much else showing up in this release. It seems like the OS 4.6 designation will be left for the newer 9000 series devices. The OS 4.5 will not be that much different in terms of functionality from what I hear.

Man that is exciting! I am getting sick waiting for this thing. I remember thinking how awesome it was going to be doing video capture on the Curve in NOVEMBER! Kevin M. put that video on YouTube and I was stoked.

6 months later. . . maybe. . . . please. . . I almost don't even care anymore. (I really do care, it just makes me feel better to say that.)

    partners = carriers.

carriers will release it once they are done testing. if there are problems, bug reports will go back to BB for fixes.

as someone who works with corporate software systems:
don't expect this to be released within a month.

-BB thinks the bugs are fixed - releases a secure version to carriers
-carriers will add on their proprietary stuff and new bugs will arise based on software conflicts (1-2 weeks)
-BB will fix the new bugs (code remediation) (1 week)
-carriers will re-test and uncover new bugs (1 week)
-BB will fix again (1 week)
-Carriers test (assume no bugs) (1 week)
    -release to us

It looks like a 4-8 week period based on my estimates

Maybe I am wrong and testing will be done quicker. Since it is not live software maybe they can do mid-week testing releases.

So those of us with CDMA devices are out in the cold? Or is 4.5 really just the GSM version of 4.3? Do we know for sure yet if it has Docs to go and html email?

Carriers don't add anything to the BB. That's all done inhouse by RIM. It's nothing more then themes anyway for the BBs.
