Everyone should know how secure BlackBerry is. Even if BlackBerry is lacking their marketing efforts. Great article right here.

Arguably, that's either a good article or terrible article. The basis of the article is that BlackBerry isn't promoting their security creds when in reality they've ALWAYS touted them. One could even go so far as to say that that's all they touted for years. The problem at this point is the fact that normal, everyday people, generally just don't care about security. Sure, they freak out when something happens... they tweet about it... they get mad about it but then the next day it's largely forgotten about.

Then there's the issue of actually getting devices into carrier stores. The OP uses Verizon as an example... terrible example...considering Verizon doesn't even have what is arguably the best BlackBerry device available to them. The author is mixing scenarios as well.. there's hacks in automotive, so this could help BlackBerry with handset sales, I'm not so sure about that. There's not much of mindset as of yet wherein people think about the security of their car and their smartphone at the exact same time.

I agree with premise of the article, being that BlackBerry should market more but that article is suggesting BlackBerry needs to tout their security more in handsets by using the automotvce market and all things will be peachy.. can't see that happening since they've been sharing their security acumen for YEAAAAARS now and it hasn't driven the masses. But hey, that's just me.

The FUD marketing usually only works when government does it.

Definitely one of the two! Maybe both...

It is nice to read an optimistic article about BlackBerry in the media for a change...

I don't think that it's all about marketing though. It really is about "supply and command" as Ricky from the TPB would say. If there is a growing demand for security in people's phones, then their sales will increase.

As of lately though, people are too concerned with having the phone that will show that they are able to have the latest and greatest. Also, they feel the ecosystem that they are involved in as an investment and it is hard for them to cut their losses and start over. Just think about how it felt back in the pre-smartphone days when you had to re-enter all of your contacts. Now you have to re-download and / or repurchase all of those apps? Forget it! That's too much work!

Really, it's going to take more than someone's car getting hacked. Wait until Apple Pay really starts to gain some traction and then that gets hacked. It'll be big and the banks will be pissed. Apple will lose much credibility and maybe, just maybe, people will start to come back around to thinking about how important having a secure handset actually is.

The automotive angle is pretty hard to work with when you know that most brands use QNX OS owned by Blackberry. For example Fiat Chrysler Group, which has recalled millions of vehicles due to a recent hack, is a customer of QNX. Their slogan is: 'QNX OS for Security'. If they can't secure your car how can they secure your phone?

Qnx had nothing to do with the Chrysler hack. ****ty programming did. They didn't need to access that deep to hack the cars garbage systems.

Flash and java get owned all the time on Windows, and Windows takes flak for it. Same argument being made here. Microsoft likely doesn't like being called full of holes when its Adobe and Oracle to blame for many escalation exploits.

With marketing nobody is interested in your nuance nor technical arguments.
