BlackBerry Ltd may be forced to stop making smartphones if business doesn?t improve: Chen | Financial Post

The development of other super-secure devices, like Boeing Co.s self-destructing smartphone, could fill that gap if BlackBerry were to exit the market, Chen said.

Seems like this was the plan for a while. If it happens oh well when my phone dies I will just switch.

Unfortunately, I think the ship is sinking. I have 3 bb10 devices, purchased the leap a week ago. Will support BlackBerry till the ship has sunk.

Gotta do what ya gotta do. That's fine with me. If I can still get a high-end device as a prosumer, I'm good.

I have no issues with this either. As much as I love my BlackBerry Passport, if this is the best business decision for the company in order for it to survive, I can easily move on to another device. I'm a BlackBerry fan but life can go on without a BB phone. I do support BlackBerry's turnaround efforts though and I would like to see them succeed, even if it means fully stepping out of handsets.

Chen has mentioned that before. It's becoming more of a reality since BlackBerry only sold about 1 million phones the last quarter. If sales don't increase I'd say BlackBerry will get out of the hardware business by the end of 2016.

If the slider and Classic 2 (or other physical keyboard phone they introduce for 2016) do not sell well then I think BlackBerry will be more serious about halting the hardware division. I hope they at least have another year of phones; it'll give me more time with a BlackBerry phone until I have to switch to another platform.

    What a pity !
BB10 is such a great OS.
I won't go back to Apple and Android is really messy but at least more open.
    Fingers crossed for a miracle...

I wouldn't be surprised if Android or iOS adopts many BBOS10 features if BlackBerry stops making phones. And everyone will declare how innovative Android and iOS have become. Lol

How do they expect ANY sales if they keep saying this? I for one won't get another BlackBerry again for unless their smartphone division seems to be future proof

What can they expect having the same dual core 1.5ghz processor in all their latest phones? Gotta stay somewhat relevant with the market.

Why bother announcing two new hardware partners during the earnings report when you are just going to launch one or two devices per year?
