Comparison of profit/loss vs shipments (paywall for more detailed information).

    ? RIM/Blackberry net income/loss 2009-2016 | Statistic

? Blackberry smartphone shipments worldwide 2007-2013 | Statistic

Shipments were 4-5x higher in 2010-2011 than in 2007 but income was less than twice. The word "tanked" applies after that. Because of trailing sales/data I wouldn't blame a particular model but it's pretty clear BB10 has not been positive for BBRY at all.
It's funny, but the peak was 2011, both net income and phone sales.
The downward trend started at about the time the founders were replaced by the Board, in 2012.

It's very typical of high tech companies. The founders are replaced, bean counters take over, everything goes down the drain and the company becomes irrelevant.

    Chen's BlackBerry reiterates that scenario.
BlackBerry is now a shadow of what it once was and irrelevant to consumers.

With the ASP at $315 and the division dying, consumer sales nonexistent, Act like a startup, undercut everyone, tell the carriers (who don't pay them any mind anyway) to f off and sell direct online for $250, $300 and $350. have some super fast shipping scheme, 24 hr support to sweeten the deal and give it a shot. Grab some attention, grab some mindshare, grab some cash and grab your competitors by the balz.
If you read Chen's interview last week in the Globe and Mail, you'll see that he said that the hardware division has 80% software guys now. There's no-one left to fire he abandons hardware.
So there's no one to execute your plan.

It's over. There is no way for anyone to keep their heads in the sand any longer. These boards will be relegated to troubleshooting and "what went wrong?!" lamenting posts. Nice knowing you guys.

BBRY already has high overhead that startups typically don't face and you are advocating both reducing revenue/profit and increasing support costs. So your proposal would entail either massive job cuts or asking their people to take big salary cuts (most likely both). Startups also typically sweeten the lower pay with stock options. That likely would not be much of a draw given the stock's recent history.

Have to throw in some very talented managers who can negotiate concessions from carriers and successfully run direct sales. You would also need massive change and flexibility in corporate culture from the top, which to date has been (IMO) an Achilles heel of BBRY's.

    All in all - no.

"Advocating"?, "Proposal"?, "Concessions"? whats with all the drama? AND WHAT! are you talking about?...this is not a congressional hearing, and no you not chairing again.

Remember, its just an idea not a thesis. Ideas are free, come up with one for hardware. I'm sure it will be "MASSIVE".

..reducing profit?, stock options? .......what!... I think it's time you take a bath and throw in some VERY bubbly Mr. Bubbles and NO TV for you young man, then straight to bed.
