This is if they were all in an area with the exact same 3G coverage.
It seems like the 9700 would be the obvious answer but I heard the 9000 was actually faster?
Anyone know the verdict?

No, I think the 9700 is faster.
I suppose it would depend on what exactly you mean by "fastest". If you mean processing speed, then it shouldn't really depend on if you are in a 3G area or not. If you mean network speed being fastest, then it wouldnt really depend on on the phone's processing power....
If you clarify what you mean i think people would be able to answer better.
The 9700 is definitely the fastest .
Most users can't tell the difference between a 9000, 9700 or a 9630. All pretty fast.
The 9700 seems to be faster but not by much.
mine ......
Aren't the 8900 and 9700 the same as far as memory and processor?
Same app memory.
8900 has slower processor than 9700 (512MHz on 8900 and 624MHz on 9700).
9000 also has 624MHz processor but only 128MB app memory.
Red ones. Everyone knows red is the fastest color. Make sure you get a red one.

The early Storm legacy, I understand people were able to achieve impressive velocity, enhanced by the lack of aerodynamic drag caused by the presence of a keyboard. (Ducks into nearby alley).

9700.
9700 is 3G enabled on both AT&T and T-Mobile
Although the 9700 is clocked the same (624mhz), it's processor is of a later architecture, and is faster than the one in the 9000.
Sigh I wish the 8900 had 3g..
