When I connected both my Bold and my girlfriends 8900 to google maps, the Curve found my location via GPS far quicker than the Bold. It took the Curve just 1 - 2 minutes to find the 'location within 3 metres' while the Bold hung on, 'Your location within 800 metres. Waiting for GPS' for around ten minutes until it found it within 3 metres.

Is this normal? Does the Curve 8900 have superior GPS to that on the Bold?

Have you got location aiding enabled on the Bold?

1-2 minutes is a really long time to wait nevermind the 10 you mention. On mine it locates me (and my friends on latitude) within 5 seconds.

How do you enable location aiding? I too have a problem for my GPS taking a long time kicking in.

    EDIT:

I just found out, however it's been on the whole time, anyone know why it still takes awhile?

Go to Options>Advanced Options>GPS, you see it toward the bottom.

Get outside when you can, go to Options>Advanced Options>GPS, menu, refresh GPS.

No guarantee that will fix it, but its worth updating it once in a while.

Have you tried it on BB Maps to see what that is like? That does take longer so would be a useful guide

Maybe it is because I am indoors but then again so is the curve and that connected quickly.

if you haven't done so upgrade to .247

My GPS takes seconds to kick in even indoors.

I read on another thread that disabling the 3g conection makes GPS a lot quicker and they were right. It takes just seconds to kick in. This would be why the Curve connected quicker.
It's bad really that the GPS performance is tarnished by the 3g connection.

What is .247? Is this a new os? I have only had my bold for a couple of weeks so I'm still learning.

It's not so bad outdoors, the little dot follows me precisely when driving but indoors it takes along time to connect unless I disable 3g.

Unless you are using GPS indoors, then you really have no issue.

True! But I was just wandering if the Curve had a faster GPS chip but now I guess it was the 3g issue. I will test them again later with the Bold's 3g disabled.

Dunno. Liked papped, mine works fine on 3G if I'm outside.

Yeah mine literally took 3 seconds just now on G Maps... and I'm on the first floor of a two story building.

Took 5 seconds inside a building with poor reception and 3G (using GMM, OS 247).
