How did you get facebook to work without data plan?
Sorry, i just have a question about using MSN live messenger..
Say I leave Mobile Network ON and WiFi ON, then does it auto-use Wifi isntead of my data plan?
How do I set it so that it uses wifi isntead?
I confirm that BB Push Mail, Yahoo Messenger, Poynt working without Data Service !
how does BB push mail work without data plan??????????
please enlighten me...
I have been doing a lot of research on this topic because I currently have the data plan and am planning on cancelling it shortly. Can anyone here confirm what I have been reading about Tmobile's Blackberry Enabler Feature that you can request for FREE when cancelling the data plan? And if this is true will some apps continue to work on wifi alone, (e.g. Gmail) is the one I really want, as long as I have the correct service books?
I don't know if this has been posted about previously or not, but I installed Instango recently for IM and it seems to work just fine over wifi. I have the "carrier internet" turned off and set it within the program settings to use only wifi. I tried it with the mobile network turned off and it logged in just fine. So if anyone is looking for a free alternative to JiveTalk this may work for you.
I also noticed one other thing JiveTalk doesn't allow one to set the program to use only the wifi connection. Instead, when you leave the wifi coverage area, it automatically switches over to the carrier data network. Since I still have pay-per-use data on my phone, I'd rather not have this happen. Instango allows me to force it to use ONLY the wifi connection.
Good tip, thnx banjiben. Will look into it since I don't want to go over data limit anyway. Wifi doesn't hurt when its available.

how did u get facebook to work on wifi?
i used AIM, facebook, myspace, gmail on wifi before, but since i have a new contract plan, it wont work anymore, except for the browser. I called in tmobile blackberry to help me get it back, he said that it was probably a gliche and that i was lucky to have those on wifi bc those are not available unless i have the data plan. extreamly disappointed.
i have a quick question, i have a 500mb data plan, if i have the wifi on and say im using google maps, does it use the data plan or the wifi ??
Right on guys! I think since the bold/storm came out they've really put a push on wifi enabled apps. Thanks for the info!

I see so many people ask about a good free IM program but I hardly ever see anyone suggest OZ IM. You can find it here:
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...tmessaging.jad
I know the link say Pearl, but I ran this on my 8320 for a long time. It uses the SMS protcol and not Data. I only uninstalled it because I set up all my IM clients on the computer to log into my phone when I log out on the comp so all my IM's come through text messaging. But OZ does work well and supports AOL, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ.
Does OZ support Wifi? I don't have a data plan, nor do I have texting (I pay $0.20 per text). Therefore, something that uses SMS would get expensive real fast. I am saturated with wifi where I am, hence why I only use wifi.
Yes it does support Wi-Fi, but it will use SMS, so if you have no messaging, then no it won't work.
BB push mail and yahoo messenger on wi-fi...
HOW????????
owner of this thread needs to update his first post!!! i think this is the most essential thread on this forum in terms of software... helped me a lot when i first got my bold a few weeks ago...
haha love your signature & totally agree! :D
Is there no podcast application for wifi-only users, or have I just missed it? Alternatively, is there a good site for finding MP3 and MP4 podcasts/downloads that can be played on a BlackBerry? I'm disappointed at how many podcasts out there can't be played on a BlackBerry, and it's proving difficult to find the playable ones.
Podcasts? Try podtrapper. Works on wifi without data plan.
OK....talk about being totally confused!!! I know I am new to the bb but I am certainly no *****...however, starting to feel like one around here. I am confused about the data plans with bb. I have ATT and have the 8120. The major reason I got it was because of the wifi. I have used OZ and I love it. Very easy to use. We have unlimited texting also. Anyway, I noticed somekind of data usage charge on my bill. How can I get charged if I am not using the internet except through wifi? Is that possible? I did have my wifi on constantly and saw that may have somethign to do with it. Maybe always searching? Anyway, I can use the Media Net browser with no problem but not the bb one. Is there a commonly known reason for this with the Peart? What am I missing or not seeing? Don't have many apps yet. I've only had it a few months. Tried myspace but couldn't find it even though its in my list of apps...PLEASE help a newbie!
you have to change your browser config.. media net uses data you want to enable hotspot browser and use that. hotspot = wifi
question, How do I get EQO 1.6.3 to work with Wifi? I cannot get into any options screen on 1.6.3, is it only the 1.6.0 that has an options selection in the menu? Or do I have to go into some other part of my blackberry and not in the app itself?
I think i figured it out, I restarted my bb , then i opened it up and managed to get passed the login. even though i was offline I had access to a "settings" option that allows me to select "best setting"
oh well, I went back into my Option > advanced options > applications > eqo > edit permissions > and set connections to allow front deny and I cannot get to the settings menu anymore and its giving me that same error I had to begin with.
Doing a soft reset. nope, didnt work :/ Can I want eqo to work T_T
Okay I give up... Eqo.com says it should be able to detect the wifi and use it , I tried editting the permissions and removing the battery. I got past the login once by setting the connections permission to deny, I had a code 06 error and I could get into the "settings" where i chose "best blah blah blah" , I then enabled connections and I still have the same problem.
Dear users,
IM+ and IM+ for Skype can work over Wi-Fi also.
Regards,
SHAPE Services
Slacker Radio works for wifi-only, which is totally free streaming radio. There are 100 or so music stations, and you can customize your own, sort of like with Pandora or Last.fm.
IM+ doesn't work for me, though.
added:
* instango
*slacker radio
so far so good :D
i'll be 100% sure once i get the bill and see no charges for internet, then i'll the THRILLED! lol! :p (i'll let u guys know....that way others can add with no worries :D)
thnx 4 the recommendations!!
*edit: (jan26)
just uninstalled slacker radio :( only got it to play one song then kept getting different errors (i checked for solutions in forums & none worked for me)...
