But I tested FaceBook app with the Mobile Network TURNED off, I was only over Wifi.
You were using UMA ... which you need a data plan for

... no data plan ... no UMA ... no Facebook over WiFi

I downloaded the facebook app from getjar.com and use it on WIFI only WITHOUT a data plan.

It's an older edition, but the app is on the home screen and can be accessed with wifi.

If you're referring to the "facebook mobile" app on getjar.com, it's simply a link to your browser. It's not really an app :-/

Yup, I downloaded it too, it's a shortcut that's placed on your home screen. It will download your contacts via WiFi, but then, it can never download their status updates.

No only IM that will work over WiFi right now is JiveTalk
I used palringo, it has most of the IM clients and it works without any data plan and only with wifi.

I COULD NOT get the following apps to work without a data plan using wifi connection:

    Yahoo Go
    BB Maps
    Google Maps
    Opera Mini
    Facebook

Anybody without data have differing results with these using wifi?

I was able to get facebook to work without a dataplan...
as for e-mail I'm using LogicMail (IMAP and POP3) both work fine (have three accounts set up on it.

Yahoo GO! worked without a dataplan (e-mail, local search, etc).

Hopefully Opera will comeout with a 4.2 that works on the internet.
How did you get Facebook to work without data plan?

I have data plan disabled, but I can't get facebook app to work over wifi.

I can access facebook with browser, but not the facebook app. Can you access facebook app with wifi only? If so can you elaborate on how u got it working?

Yup, but it's a terrible interface. There are other WiFi friendly messaging programs (BeeJive, Palringo), however, that you can use to IM people on the Google Chat network.

For all the bloggers out there, I recently discovered that Wordpress for the blackberry works over wifi. Here is the link:

    blackberry.wordpress.org/2009/07/07/wordpress-for-blackberry-beta/

    Currently in beta though. Enjoy.

i searched this thread and nobody seemed to have mentioned mediafly... though i stumbled upon it by accident on a facebook ad while watching pics from my exgf...

works fine over wifi... there's a bit of a process you have to go through before u can use it though... sign up for a name on their website and then add this code provided to you by the blackberry... it's quick and worth it if you like podcasts...
