If you're referring to the "facebook mobile" app on getjar.com, it's simply a link to your browser. It's not really an app :-/
Yup, I downloaded it too, it's a shortcut that's placed on your home screen. It will download your contacts via WiFi, but then, it can never download their status updates.
I was able to get facebook to work without a dataplan...
as for e-mail I'm using LogicMail (IMAP and POP3) both work fine (have three accounts set up on it.
Yahoo GO! worked without a dataplan (e-mail, local search, etc).
Hopefully Opera will comeout with a 4.2 that works on the internet.
How did you get Facebook to work without data plan?
I have data plan disabled, but I can't get facebook app to work over wifi.
I can access facebook with browser, but not the facebook app. Can you access facebook app with wifi only? If so can you elaborate on how u got it working?
i have an 8320.. ths applications work with WIFI w/o a data plan:
Opera Mini
Palringo (Integrates MSN, Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, etc -- Cool Stuff)
Tiggit Mail (Purchased Email Client) OR
Logic Mail (Free but plenty of bugs but works well though)
BB Weather
MM Maps
FlyCast
AP News
Pandora
Twitterberry
Ubertwitter
Note: Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, BB Messenger needs a data plan to work.. Hope this help...
Does google chat work through the browser on BB WiFi?
Yup, but it's a terrible interface. There are other WiFi friendly messaging programs (BeeJive, Palringo), however, that you can use to IM people on the Google Chat network.
i searched this thread and nobody seemed to have mentioned mediafly... though i stumbled upon it by accident on a facebook ad while watching pics from my exgf...
works fine over wifi... there's a bit of a process you have to go through before u can use it though... sign up for a name on their website and then add this code provided to you by the blackberry... it's quick and worth it if you like podcasts...
