Since BlackBerry ceo john Chen said that the next flagship devices will predominantly have a physical qwerty keyboard, (while it is still early to think about this) I was wondering if you all think there might be a slider phone just like the blackberry torch.

So it is a balance for those who prefer bigger screens (not square ones) while having a physical keyboard.

    What do you think?

I loved both my 9800 and 9810 Torches. If a BB10 slider came out, I would consider switching from my Z10 on the first day it was available...

I don't know, personally don't think that they will come up with a BB10 slider in the near future. I believe that Chen would concentrate on the business segment and there are definitely more bolds in use in the corporate section.

I do understand the desire for a slider that some people have, even though I am not one of them. To me it has always been the bold series and similar so, if BB10 will make it, I'll probably stick to that form factor.

Only one of the big 3 carriers had the Torch slider. If you were with Sprint or Verizon, you HAD to get the Bold. It annoys me to no end (Sprint guy here).

Before my Z10 my 9810 was my favourite phone. The best combination of real-estate with keyboard and a not-so-bad processor.
If they could figure out how to make my Z30 into a slider I would be one of the very first in line.

Business users I've talked to in lines and on airplanes that have the 9810 had the exact same reasons: Yes there are better keyboards (9900 for example) but they would compromise a bit to get more screen.

I used to think I would like a physical keyboard but now I am in love with the keyboard on my Z 10. I would definitely check a slider out. I tried the Torch but preferred the Bold 9900 instead. The keyboard was less cramped and raised up more than on the slider, IMO.

In my opinion I personally feel that the cost to develop a slider Bb10 phone would far outweigh the profits made from sales. I think blackberry is on the right track at with only 2 models of phones (z10,z30) and (q10,q5). Money would be better spent getting apps on par with Google and apple. And doing some real marketing of the OS.

Apple has proven you can survive in the mobile world with one model of phone.

I tried the Z30 for a couple weeks, but still need my keyboard, so I went back to the Q10. I am hoping there is a new BlackBerry slider in the next few months.

A new slider on the horizon may explain why Rogers didn't initially want the Z30. They know how well the Torch sold and may think there is only room for a limited number of phones in their retail system, touch, keyboard, cheap keyboard, and a slider. I can see it coming down to Z30, Q10, Q5, and the slider, with the Z30 replacing the Z10 once the Z10 stock dwindles.

I would love to see a Torch BB10 device. I was thinking of getting an upgrade with a Nokia Lumia or Android device, just to test the waters, but if BlackBerry put this out, I'd have a LOT of problems deciding where to go! I've always loved the Torch series.

Dumb question: how would the cases for Torch devices work?

I would love to see a slider style. The 9800 was slick! I held on to that device longer than any other BlackBerry I've owned. I was surprised that the sliding mechanism lasted the whole time. I used to just sit and slide the phone open/close for no reason. I remember some BlackBerry person saying the slider would outlast the 2yr contract....
