    Hi,
I am residing in the UAE at the moment and will be for a few more years. I just recently got a hold on another blackberry and have grown very attached to it(addicted). The telecommunication company "du" offered alternative solutions such as discounts on other handsets and/or unlimited data plan for a 12month contract only for current BB users. However, Im not very keen on giving up on my BB yet and there are still talks about whether this ban is going to be implemented on October 11 or lifted through some sort of miracle, which is likely, but im not taking the risk and switching over.

So ive been searching for alternative POP/SMTP email solutions on the BB once I lose the service but most of the threads here are 2-3years old and Im certain that since then alot of companys must have offered these POP/SMTP alternatives on Blackberry for those who do not choose to subscribe to BIS/BES. Alot of them exist but arent thought off and do not have a popularity amongst BB users since BIS does the job pretty well and usually cheaper.

Im hoping that through this thread, we will be able to help blackberry users in countries that chose to ban Blackberry services stick to their blackberrys and still make use of it. It would'nt be as addictive without BBM service but never the less usable for emailing.

Also note that i will be getting the unlimited 3Gdata plan which costs me only about $14 a month so that isnt a problem.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Yours Truly,
    The unforunate crackberry addict.

I use hotmail and when i go to settings to forward the emails i only get the option to forward on hotmail or live accounts. I cannot forward to my gmail.

You don't have to forward them to GMAIL, gmail can actually check the mailbox for you. Click Here

it can also send mail so that it comes from other addresses Click Here

That should solve your problem. I would just setup a new gmail account only for that purpose, and default gmail to send via your other account.

NICE! Thanks man! Thats really great! And another thing that i havent mentioned is what about pushmail? Is there a company that provides pushmail for BB free/paid other than BIS? That would be helpful too.

I admit that haven't followed the situation in the UAE as closely as others, but I was under the impression that it was all BB data that would be shut off, not just BiS. It didn't sound like a work around would function, because the berry would be denied data access over the carriers' networks.

I too thought I'd heard that BB units were simply going to be turned off as samrtphones, ie they are just a mobile telephone (no data)
