It's all opinion. As far as free apps go, Google maps is usable as long as you don't need your current location. Nav4all is free and functional. The blackberry maps application is also very usable. For paid apps you could try Garmin mobile, Telenav, etc.
I currently have vz nav. Are you telling me, i do not have to have this for my gps to be enabled on the phone? I would much rather us a free service, or a one-time pay service opposed to paying $10/mth for this. I have now heard two sides to this. In order for GPS to be enabled on the phone you have to have VZ nav. Anyone?
I love Garmin Mobile. Followed a link from another post and got it for $80. Beats the $10 monthly fee from VZW or TeleNav. Includes traffic and weather info. Items that drive the price of a standard GPS up.
Just for all you users of Garmin Mobile, if you put a phone number (business) in "Google Local Search" on the main garmin page, it will pull up the name and navigate to the location. VZ Navagator won't do that!
Does Garmin work on Verizon? The site says excluding verizon.
I used the 7 day trial of garmin mobile on my Storm 9530 on Verizon and it worked. I did have some issues with the program crapping out when I was in poor coverage areas and it killed the battery but for the most part it worked great.
I guess it all epends on what you want your NAV to do. The Garmin has turn by turn voice with street naming, gas stations with current price, weather and traffic. To top it off you can usually get it for 80 bucks rather than the 100 that is listed.
I'm on Telus which seems to sometimes block the GPS on GMM - does for me and some others in the Telus section, but not others. My question is does anyone know if the one-time-fee apps like Garmin would be blocked by Telus as well?
does anyone know how to setup a gps program for 8530i and does it cost more than just normal data usage and does it stop all incoming calls during use
that would depend , which gps program your using, i just d/l the garmin program for the storm, and it has setting you can control how calls are handled.
i just got nav4all and used it for the first time tonight, it worked very well not quite as sexy as vz navigator or garmin but works none the less and the price is right FREE!
