I have company berry wirelessly connected to my Outlook

I think it's called Business Enterprise System

Presumably this uses company server for email but can my company also see/read private/confidential sms message content?

If your company is using a BES server (Blackberry Enterprise Server), then yes, your employer can see everything you do on your Blackberry, should they so choose to do so. It is more common for IT to check up on company provided phones, and not necessarily employee owned blackberries, but it is possible. I'm not saying they will look at everything, but they can.

Also they can, depending on the IT department, restrict what programs can be installed, or if your phone is lost, they can remotely wipe it through the BES.

Hope this helps answer your question.
