I plan to get my first BB phone, the Storm 2, and then hook it up to the BES at my job. At the Verizon store I will have them transfer my contacts from my old windows mobile phone to the Storm2. A few days later, when I get connected to my workplace BES, will those previous phone contacts remain on the phone? Will they be transferred to my Outlook contacts at work? Or do they remain separate?

I'm pretty sure BES will replace your BlackBerry contacts with whatever is in Outlook, although to be honest my experience has been with "virgin" phones. I think you will need to first sync your phone with Outlook, then when you switch to BES they will be in the address book.
