Did I ask for an explanation? No I asked for a better name like X or NX. I did not say anything about why it can't be called BBX, all I said was that RIM should come up with a better name..THAT'S ALL..

Their new OS should be called Genesis, because they're starting from scratch with a new platform...

Then again, SEGA might throw a fit this time...

I really can't believe they started using a new name w/o trademarking it. Tomorrow I'm going to trademark blackberry 10 and then sell it to them for thousands. The people running RIM are idiots. How are you in the business world and messing up on a simple trademark?

Man, you people give up way too easy. Who said this was over? It was a temporary order. I think RIM believes they will eventually win or work out a settlement and get to keep the BBX name. However, with the TPO being made so close to the start of Devcon Asia, they had to come up with a replacement that would be the least confusing for when they are able to use BBX, thus BB10 since X = 10. So, the BBX RIM branding name is probably not dead yet.

Something doesn't have to be officially trademarked in order to have trademark protection. As long as it can be proved that since a certain time period the trademark was in use to the public in a significant manner, then a company has trademark protection. Even if you do trademark something, if it can be proven that someone else was using it publicly and substantially, the other person can take precedence over your "official" trademark.

Already lot of delay and furore has been created with QNX launch. RIM doesn't want any controversy in this matter. Also, as it was pointed X means '10", so keeping same philosphy. Now, it is more crucial for RIM to launch this OS as early as possible to remain in competition.

What about Windows8? Since the Playbook's been rooted, it'll probably end up on there anyway.

Hmm. Lets see how they piece it together. And how BlackBerry markets the name.

I don't think BBX can be changed since the phone is supposed to come out early 2012. So BB X it has to be.

It can. It wasn't announced for even more than half a year.

Also in mathematics the "X" stands for or means the unknown.

Personally I think RIM should look at rebranding the device line all together for the US. The Blackberry name here has just been beat down, and simply just isn't desirable to the masses anymore like it was a few years ago. Japanese car makers did this. There was no Lexus in Japan, but US wouldn't pay high dollar for a Toyota, so they developed Lexus name for their high end cars for the US, but the same cars in Japan were Toyota's (same with Nissan/Infiniti). Now Lexus is a respected, sought after brand in the US, and the name filtered out to the rest of the world, including back to Japan. I think a similar approach could possibly benefit RIM.

Ok if BALLZ is out of the question, the how about putting the X in between the Black and Berry and call it BXB which would look like black then a big font 'X' then the berry. you could call it "bixby"! and you shouldn't make it angry cause you wouldn't like it if it got angry. <cue sad hulk piano music>
