Might sound silly, try that volume rocker reset method.

Hold down volume keys, both + and - keep holding them down until your Q5 gets to the loading circle and release the keys. Once it boots up, give it a minute, and try BBM again.

Also check if you have data lol [not being a troll, sometimes its the small things we overlook] get on WIFI if possible and send BBM messages. I'm inclined to believe you might not be getting a data signal, this is just a guess on my part.

I'm not having any issues with mine. Maybe you are in a low service area.

It isn't BlackBerry's fault that you might have less than stellar signal or whatever.

I've hard my Z10 and had to battery out once in the past 3 months. That was caused by playing music, having voice recorder running, and the camera app open as I was trying to snap a pic of my work place.

I got a BBM message arrive and someone called while all this was going on and the phone locked up. I'm not surprised really because the camera wanted to access the audio, as did BBM, the phone ringing tone, etc. It locked with the incoming number on the screen and red light flashing and the music jittered about every 5 seconds until I pulled the battery.

Not bad really. Only time I've had it.

As for BBM image. Has your friend upgraded to latest BBM on iPhone and then reset her image? That'll probably fix it.
