BB10 will have more memory space available for apps?
Hello everyone. I'm a bb addict, but I have a huge frustration when it refers to memory space on my bold 9900. With a few apps the memory it's almost in 400 mb. My question is: Does anyone knows if the new bb devices are gonna have more memory space available for apps and so?
Thank you in advance.

They will. I think it will work like the playbook.
Re: BB10 will have more memory space available for apps?
The app memory space will work similar to the PlayBook, iPhone, and most mobile devices.
Hopefully there will be a MicroSD card to add media
Re: BB10 will have more memory space available for apps?
Thank you so much for the answer. Now, I feel good about it. There is not enough room for apps in just 250 free mb after the OS. And having 8gb just for storage and not for apps is criminal. I can't wait for the lauch of these new devices.

What's wrong with this thread started earlier?
A bit confusing....

Sorry 16 gigs don't cut it for me, and memory cards don't count...

Actually SD cards do work. Internal memory (16/32/64) for apps, OS and system data. SD card for images, music, videos, podcasts, documents.
Uhh.... Just like we do it now!!!
The PlayBook doesn't have SD cards so you need to get the most storage you can afford, but phones won't be limited to one block of space for everything. Get a 16/32gb Class 4/6 SD card and you should be good for a looking time.

Thats my problem, if BB10 lives up to it's hype and the apps are there, then 16 gigs are not enough space. I have the 64 gig pb and apps alone take up 15 gigs...

You just contradicted TW93 above. And I think contradicted your own first sentence. Sigh - if it's truly the same as we have now that will be a huge issue. If we can run apps off internal memory and store data (including Contacts etc.) on SD cards that will be ok. A mix, where app data can be confined to internal storage or allowed to be on SD cards on an app-by-app basis would be ideal.
Can any of our more solid/technical posters advise on how this will be handled? And please, no "I think" or "I wish". If we're still at that stage with the Dev A's and Dev B's out for so long then we're in real trouble.
TIA - R.

We are debating because nobody knows. I the PB we have 16, 32, and 64 gig models with no sd cards. Current bb models cant save app\game data onto the sd card, it is saved to the bb's on board memory. Android phones can save app\game's to the memory card (which is what I hope bb10 will be able to do, but again nobody knows until it is released).

Yep. Will work like the PlayBook. To give you an example, my old Bold could only hold 768 MB in apps total. Bard's Tale on my PlayBook alone is 1 GB in size.

"Nobody knows"??? Even the developers who have had the Dev A and Dev B devices for months now? Who are trying to release apps to go with the phone that is supposed to ship in Q1 2013 - mere months away? WHo have been working with the NDK and SDK for months? You're saying they don't know the memory management capabilities of BB10?
That's a pretty fundamental point to have unanswered at this point. Sorry, but your comment makes no sense to me at all. I find that really really hard to believe.

Well find me an article or press release from RIM, telling us the memory specifications of the upcoming bb10 devices. If you cant (just like I cant) then NO BODY KNOWS! Sorry buddy, but rim has released NO hardware specifications for the bb handsets to come, they have released spec info for the dev alphas, but even that does not tell us much...

If you've even been paying attention to what's been going on with the Developer Alpha devices *in the least*, you would know for sure that MicroSD slots are there in the hardware. It's highly unlikely that RIM will simply delete the MicroSD card slot in the final hardware revision. :cant-watch:
Re: BB10 will have more memory space available for apps?
it would be great if we couldn't only use the SD-card for media, etc., but also for apps - i agree!
too bad nobody knows if that's possible or not : /
