If there is a chance BB10 can survive, that will be with Google Play. No other way it can survive. BB needs to go to Google and pay whatever it takes so you can install apps from google play without sideloading. At any cost!!

The big problem with BB10 is with little tiny local apps from around the internet that only get uploaded to Google Play and iTunes. And those apps, most of them, could run flawesly in BB10 if you only could install them (like any other folk) from their webpage or their QR code.

Having native apps and a Shop for native apps is totally congruent with what I am saying. But I am pretty sure That is the blocking problem they need to solve right now.

It's not going to happen. And even if it did, it's hardly a major selling point -- "Look, our phones can run any Android app you want! Just like a bazillion other smartphones out there."

The only way manufacturers get access to Google Play store, is when they sign up for the whole package. They become members of the Android alliance, and have to put the other apps: Google Maps, Gmail etc. on the phone.

And BBRY has an inherent interest to have people use Blackberry for email, rather than gmail.

It would also kill development for BB10. (The part of it that's still alive after introducing the Android Runtime... Talk about peeing your pants in order to stay warm...)

And native apps will always be better and faster than warmed over Android apps running in a runtime...

I dont think that is the to go. I has already been discovered that the most agressive malware software for android is in the google play store. Why open up the platform to that?

Terrible idea. That would destroy BlackBerry rather than save it.

They need to throw money at app makers like Microsoft does with WP if they want to succeed.

Youre right! And, it can happen if they stop BSing as if it cant happen. Clearly, BlackBerry has a problem with apps and content. They should have the sense to outsource that part especially since they can and, technically, have already done so by allowing sideloading. They just have to have the sense to actually follow through with these plans. It would level the playing field in a massive way.

But, Blackberry management doesnt know how to take advantage of their strengths.

Android is open source. It could very well act as the main content provider for all mobile OS including WP8 and even Tizen. Sure, there can still be native apps that are baked right into the device. But, no one would have to beg these developers to create apps anymore. There would be real competition in the marketplace.

But, Blackberry has issues when it comes to that Android compatibility. Their pride wont let them do the smart thing.

If I was CEO, I'd officially piggyback on Android for the content and apps, develop native apps with public APIs, and let the OS stand on its on two feet against the others. And, I'd have much smarter advertising efforts all around. No BS pride, just pure business maneuvering. It's a winning strategy.

Amazon is running ANDROID, not BB10. The reason Amazon doesn't have access to the Play Store is because they specifically don't WANT their users to have access to it. They want Kindle users accessing AMAZON's services instead. BB is already doing their version of that with BBWorld.

But make no mistake: BB10 is NOT Android, and BB10 is never going to run Android apps like Android does, which is why apps require conversion/repackaging, and why they can't interact with each other like they can on Android.

But the single most important point was already mentioned by CrackedBarry (and largely ignored): Google will never allow direct access to the Play Store to any company that isn't part of the Android Alliance and running Google-certified Android on the device AND has Google's suite of apps installed. In order for BB to get access to the Play Store, BB10 has to be discarded and replaced by Android. Obviously, that's not going to happen. The time for that decision was about 3-4 years ago. BB went "all in" with BB10 and lost. There are no "do-overs" in big business.
