Someone in the know, please, please tell us. No one does Universal Search as well as BB OS7. (So far)

If you look at the BB10 demos from today, at the bottom of the screen are 3 icons - the middle one is a magnifying glass, so I would say yes.

It does but on the Dev Alpha it's not functional. On the RIM builds it shows up though.

Are you guys able to do a video of the search function on one of the RIM builds? I see the search icon on all the videos, but no one presses it. Does it do anything, or is it just a place holder that has no function at this point?

If it isn't functioning at all, I bet is has something to do with the video Kevin did of the settings screen where it showed 55 or so apps installed. They are probably hiding a lot of the core apps like BB Maps, BB Travel, Password Protect, MemoPad, Tasks, etc....

I don't think they are hiding anything. This same issue came up with the PlayBook. It's just a matter of what components it is counting as "apps". It's more than just the icons you see. Peter, the BatteryGuru dev, explains it well in this post. I'll add the link to the thread, but there's a lot of garbage to steer around.

The issue with "too many apps" is pretty trivial, and a cosmetic flaw at best, and perfectly correct operation if you allow for a desire to show "full" information rather than hide things. In addition to the obvious system apps, which have icons that you can tap on, there are a bunch of other things which are in the /apps folder and which the About page is counting as apps (because, mostly, they are apps). Here's the list, from which I've stripped out most things that are actually visible. I may have stripped a couple too many, or left a couple here that should have been removed. Whatever.

Oh, and I included the Bridge apps because if you're not bridged, those aren't visible but they are still installed.
