I need advice.
Phone has both 3G and Wifi connected.
By default, which is being used when using the Internet browser and other add on applications?
How do I set Wifi as the default?

OS6 automatically selects wifi as preference over 3G. On my 9700 I only need to look next to the wifi logo, and see if the blackberry symbol has moved next to it, to know that all my data is coming thru on wifi. I'm not sure if its the same on the Torch, but I expect it is.
Thanks. I started to find out more after paying too much $$$$ for data roaming while in overseas :-(
There are many places with free Wifi and that would help to reduce the cost if the OS automatically select Wifi over 3G.
Yep, the same on the Torch, provided you're using the default BB6 theme. (That's the difference: there are themes for the Torch on BB6!)
Also, the WiFi signal meter (looks like an ice cream cone of 4 waves) will be white instead of grey if you're connected via WiFi.
The devices have defaulted to WiFi for a very long time now.
You do have to be connected to the router somewhere first of course.
I (almost) never use free WiFi anywhere, so I can't remember if you're automatically prompted after the BB detects an open WiFi network, or if you have to manually go into WiFi Setup and add it yourself.
Lots of thanks. I usually do not switch on my Wifi in order to keep the battery juicy to last longer. Looks like I have to set Wifi ON all the times.
Or pick up an app like SmartWiFi when it goes on sale

I just turn wi-fi on when I'm home, it connects to my router just fine. Just to test after reading this thread, I watched a 9 minute video on You-tube (George Bush's duplicate performing at the White house dinner, I still get laughs every time I watch it). There was no increase in the data usage.
how do you see if the data is going up? or how much data i used so far this month
thanks
On AT&T, dial '*3282#' and you get a free text with data usage info.
For minutes, dial '*646#'.
I'm with bell mobility :(
maybe bell has something like that?
For Bell, call 82273 from your device and follow the prompts. Bell calls it T-Care, but no idea what that means.

I try it and it say the call can not be completed please check the number and dial again.
Thanks
Well that's super! I'm Telus, so I have no way to check. I'll yell at my "source" in the morning.
Sorry about that! I'll see if I can get the correct info

Network Traffic Control app will tell you how much data you are using via the network and how much by WiFi with daily and monthly totals. You can also set notifications based on network volumes or on $ amount.
