With the device on, remove the back, and remove the battery. Leave it out for 20-30 seconds, then put the battery back in and put the back on as well.
This is also known as a hard reboot and clears up a lot of funky issues.
someone said something about holding down the alt and backspce keys?
Thanks for your help.
my screen is on but blank but the phone still works.
Nope, a battery pull is just that - pull out the battery and put it back in :)
Just to let you know you're not crazy, the method you're talking about is a soft reset.
thanks that makes me feel better.people here are great!
Hello,
Mt bb pearl 8100 has a white screen but the phone part still works.
Any ideas out there.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for all. I got it.
Are there any good sites like media pro for the bb storm

Be careful with battery pulls cause' sometimes it deletes your saved stuff. (on phone memory)
That is why you always have a fresh backup.....
I agree with this above. Had a user do a battery pull and the phone booted up and it was wiped. But only certain parts were missing from the databases...
Think it was a low memory issue.
I am amazed, this thread has been view over 20,000 times since it was first posted back in '07.
The value of a good thread title is apparent..
I don't think I ever backed up my 8100 when I had it. Glad that I found CB, and
began learning how to do stuff with my phone.
It's easy! Just take off the battery door, take out the battery for about 30 seconds andthen put it back in!
Anything else does not hard reset your device and will not help with whatever problem you are having!
Why to do it while on? :)

You mentioned that if you do a battery pull - memory can be deleted? I have never had an issue with memory being deleted. Can you give an example? Are you talking about txt messages, missed calls, etc? Just curious....

Need a cheap blackberry phone?
Okay, I gotta ask. . .
A few years ago, when I started using my 8310, I had Service Book issues. ATT CS had me power off the phone and pull the battery after resending the SBs. That is how I pulled the battery on it and now on my 9700.
I stumbled across a thread today that noted that powering off the phone first is incorrect. I can possibly see that case, but I am curious if anyone know the real distinction beyond my guessing about it? Or if it even matters?
Have a good one.
You leave it on because:
A. It discharges the circuit board
B. It cycles the phone through a full boot
Loosing data due to a battery pull would be quite rare. I upgrade my OS at least once a week, and do at minimum 8 battery pulls over the next day. Don't recall other than the mention here anyone having an issue.
Thanks.
I have pulled my battery countless times (hahaha) and never had a memory problem even when my 8310 was darn close to its limit.
I did not notice the boot time take any longer when left on for the pull. I can wrap my electrical neophyte brain around the board discharging though. Thanks again.
Have a good one.
Or it's been cached by Google....
And, people are bringing the thread back from the dead.
And its definitely worth to pull such a thread back!;)
