I have come across the 8530 and a bold for about 230. I was wondering if that was a good price and if it that is a good phone? Please let me know as I have been gone for so long. Try to not be in too big a hurry so you don't settle for less. I don't know if you can afford it, but you would be happier with a newer Bold. Don't forget to check out EBay where you have some protection from buying a locked out or broken device. Good luck and welcome back.

i was looking on ebay, i was trying to find a new phone before at&t turns me off I would like to keep my number. I was searching on ebay but I could mostly just unlocked ones for insane prices, I don't really want an unlocked phone in case something ever happens I would want the warranty to be vaild.

This is the 9700. Very very good BB

I definately recommend it over the Curve!

It has 3G, very crisp screen, trackpad, 256 MB of memory, 3.2 camera with FLASH for taking night shots, and best of all. you have the versatility of running either OS 5 or OS 6 on it!

    Good luck

Let us know when you get it if you need any further assistance.

Even if you get a locked BB, unlocking online will cost just about $5 USD

Some bad news here. If you buy it from any source, other then a carrier, there will not be a warranty.

Reed is right, but I don't believe unlocking would void a warranty. T-Mo themselves will send a customer the unlock code free of charge. Also, I replaced an unlocked device under the manufacturer's warranty for a hardware issue.

I'm glad you found a good deal with Craigs List. EBay was just a suggestion to have you look around. Some people swear by Craigs List, but I have also heard of some problems buying BB's from them. I'm just advising caution. Good Luck.

You don't say what you expect from the phone. What do you plan on using it for? Why t-mobile?

OP, the 8530 cannot be used on T-Mobile. The 8530 is a CDMA device.

Also, if you get an AT&T branded Bold (9000 or 9700), you will only get EDGE on T-Mobile, not 3G, since the 3G frequencies are different. Same thing if you get Rogers, Telus, or Bell 9700 or 9780.

The only carriers that use the same 3G frequencies as T-Mobile are Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, and Cincinnati Bell.

t-mo because i have at&t but my sister is going to add me to her plan since i am working as a nanny for her and it will save me money. I used to be an avid blackberry user. I mainly use my device for texting bbm email facebook twitter and capture as another app i used when I had a blackberry. I dont really play games on my phone. I was concidering between the 8530 and the 9700. I plan to meet whichever i go with in person and make sure the phone works, i have both email and phone numbers in case something were to go wrong I have bought stuff before but never a phone, I have sold phones off craigs list before.

8530 WILL NOT work with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, and the 8530 is a CDMA device. There are no SIM cards is CDMA-only devices like the 8530, so you cannot use it on T-Mobile.

The 9700 would be better than the 8520. 8520 does not have 3G, does not have a camera flash, and does not have GPS. The 8520 also cannot run OS 6.

RIM will not support OS 6 for the 8520. If you like Facebook places, the lack of GPS on the 8520 will cause some headaches.

The 9700 also has better screen resolution and a faster processor than the 8520.

Also, you will be able to get 3G on a T-Mobile branded 9700. The 8520 only supports EDGE (2G).
