New is coming in that Google will be holding an even related to Google Maps on 6th June. As we know, we're expecting Apple to launch their own application for maps (traditionally they used google maps). Ofcourse this rivalry is good for the industry, but other than that its a big plus for BlackBerry in many ways:

    1) Takes the limelight away from "RIM is Dead" :- Tech Journalists will finally be getting something to report about other than "RIM is Dead". This clash will certainly make news and also will be interesting to find out who comes on top. Did Apple do a better job than Google or did Google outgun Apple with experience? Whatever it is, it is going to make headlines worldwide, and that will allow RIM to work in peace (which is needed).

    2) Gives time to optimize their own maps application: RIM is partnering with TomTom for real-time traffic data and mapping. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are going to come out with their own maps application and could only be for improving BlackBerry Traffic. But, if they do decide to bring out their own app, it would be nice to have a look at what the competition is providing and deliver something of that standard or maybe better.

    3) Gives RIM an opportunity to show their power: Google has been in the maps business for a long time now and Apple is a big company. Both would be expected to make better apps than BlackBerry (that's currently valued at 1% of Apple's value). But, when you bring in the UI elements from TAT on top of a good mapping software from TomTom, they might just come up with a better application than both Apple or Google. Even if they beat one of them, it would be considered a big success.

    4) Option of making their own app or not: Now, if google come up with a brilliant maps application, and if BlackBerry thinks its better not to waste time on making a mediocre or sub-standard application, then they can just rely back on google and have blackberry 10 come pre-loaded with it.

Whoever wins, BlackBerry will benefit from the clash. And hopefully they will be able to learn a thing or two

    It's RIM vs iPhone too.

Google is just developing OS(I know they have acquired Motorola) while RIM is developing in the software and hardware market just like Apple.
