My wife and I have been discussing how to lower our tv subscriber bill (Dish) as part of our budgeting process for the next year. We have friends that are using Apple TV. Others use other methods. What options are out there? Is there something like the BB music gateway to connect to the TV so one does not need to be tethered to the TV?

    thks in advance

BB does not have apple tv alternative. Depending if you are going to use netflix or hulu+ to stream or are looking for other ways the options are endless

Are there other options on how to stream? Do I need to have a cable connections from my phone / computer to the tv to stream?

Do you own a game console? They can be setup to stream media from a PC and also offer their own on board streaming services.

No gaming console - do have Blue ray player.

Your blue ray player might have build in streaming capabilities. For example even a low end Samsung blue ray player has smart apps on it, can connect to the Internet and can have the free plex app installed to stream from your pc.

Z30, and yes, it's a bit on the heavy side...

many bluray players have netflix or hulu apps for them and possibly others. If it has wifi there is a good chance you wont need another device

I've been using the Panasonic DMP-MST60 to stream video wirelessly using industry-standard Miracast from my Z30 to the TV.

Download torrents or rent on BlackBerry World and press 'play on' for a perfectly formatted view.

Picked it up at Future Shop for 79.99.

It also works perfectly with gf's Q10 on 10.2 OS.

    Hope this helps

There are lots of different ways to stream now. The trick is to get free or low cost product to stream from a legal source.

    It's true.

I was looking for something that would fulfill his wish for something like the music gateway, but that does video as well.

The Miracast unit is exactly that.

You can use a playbook and micro hdmi
That covers a lot of streaming sites. Not Netflix though.

Miracast = apple tv without apple only hardware(approximately but not exaxtly)

If you have any bb10 excluding z10 buy a miracast dongle and you will have wireless hdmi.

Apple tv is much more than miracast. All mircast does it mirror content on your phone. So you have to use your phone still. Apple TV has built in apps like hulu+ and netflix that can stream on their own.
