Read in news that Apple iPhone sales is stumbling across globe. Is Apple facing the same fate of BlackBerry? Is there any opportunity for BlackBerry Mobile to attract customers at this time by releasing phones with security and privacy with justifying prices? Share your thoughts.

No... because Apple has such deep pockets followed by Google and Microsoft having similar level of resources. That and BB the software company has proven that security is something that Enterprise pays for due to necessity. Consumers don’t want to pay extra. It’s been available the whole time.

I think Apple's growth is stumbling. They still sell alot of devices and services. Apple would have to fall a long long way to get to blackberry levels.

Apple might not be selling as many phones due to saturation in the market but they still sell a ton of product between phones, ipads software and many other things. They are still positioned very well in the industry.

Well, security and privacy isn't on most people's minds when they actually buy a phone. They want convenience.

I see the slowdown for Apple as more of a market correction. People are just tired of buying a new phone every year. There's just not enough incentive anymore to get the "latest and greatest" when there's no real difference between the new and the old.

Apple shot themselves in the foot last year, and while they're hopping around in pain, they will eventually settle down, dress the wound, and go on. It's probably more a short-term wound than something that will cause them to fall dying in the street.

Y'all watched Samsung a couple of years back look down the barrel of a flamethrower, pulled the trigger, and burned themselves righteously, then went to the burn clinic to get fixed up, and they're nowhere near as crispy as everyone thought they were.

Apple, like Samsung and all higher priced flagships are under immense pressure from Chinese brands Xaomi (if I spelled correctly) and Huawei in growth markets like China and India. And political reasons here in the US has kept those brands from carriers propping up Apple and Samsung for the near term. Mobile phones have pretty much reached their innovative peak as far as what any all touch device can do. Sure some may have a better camera or the latest silicon but most here know what I mean. Apple, like BlackBerry of old, supports their devices far longer than most. This means slower churn but greater loyalty. What Tim Cook is doing in his op eds as of late is brilliant. He is pushing the privacy and security message. His moves may help the general populous and politicians wake up a bit. The iPhone is under immense pressure outside of the US by those hardware manufacturers noted above and Cook and Co. are well aware. It's fascinating that mobile has gotten away with price increases where as pretty much all other similar industries, like flat panel TV's see overall prices decreasing. Lastly none of us really need to change mobile devices every year or two. If supported like Apple one can use a device for 4-5 easily.

If Apple was the only one having problems in the Smartphone business... I might would worry a little. Sales overall are declining and most everyone is seeing a decline in profits.

Only growth right now is mostly in the lower price points... Apple doesn't deal in $100 phones. But at $10 - $15 profit per phone... is Huawei and Xamoni really doing well? Or are they (China) trying to buy the market... for some reason?

Originally I took the blacklash against Huawei and other Chinese manufactures as US Protectionism. But other countries are also banning their devices and their 5G technology. Maybe there is more to it?

In the past Apple has managed to survive on just 7% of the PC market so no, they are not in any danger. As long as Apple has a large enough user base to motivate devs to make apps for them, they will be producing cell phones. Their profit margins are the envy of companies like Samsung.

Meh, Apple started out great with Jobs, then started to lose out without Jobs so they got Jobs back on board and everything was fine again. Then they kinda fell again with the not-so-innovative MacOS 9 and the first few OS X's, but then they went back up again, right up until recently. My point is: Apple always has had peaks and lows, they're currently at a low point but just like in the past, they will find a way to peak again.

Nope, apple's passive income is actually massive number. They're not only relying on sell number of their devices, but they make more money through iOS devices, including app purchases, games, music subscription, books etc. Blackberry on the other hand, their only big income is selling devices that not doing so well even now.

That's it in a nutshell. Apple is fortunate to be very diversified, but their real strength is having a cult following (that's right, I said it). They earned that dedication providing a quality product, in an environment many people want. BlackBerry year for year never had the revenue Apple took in, and their best year Apple out sold them by about 90 billion. Last year their net profit was 3 times higher than BlackBerry's top year of revenue. They would have to completely jump the shark to lose their fans and the sales they bring.

Apple got greedy. Charging $1100 for a new iPhone and slowing down the CPUs on older models to encourage upgrades.

When confronted with less-than-stellar earnings, Tim Cook did what all CEOs do: blame external forces (China, the White House, the economy, etc.). (When things go great for a company, it's a result of their genius leadership skills.)

Sadly, many media outlets are parroting Cook's lame China excuse.

CPU throttling was actually a solution to extend the life of the phone. This happens on all devices, the battery degrades overtime with use which causes performance problems and unexpected shutdowns because the device has to work harder to get power.

Apple's only mistake was hiding the feature and making it mandatory when it was first introduced, but now that it's user configurable it's a perfectly viable solution to a very real tech problem.

Yeah that's because of US influence and pressure. Still no proof. If your best friend says you should do such and such chances are you will follow their example especially if there is the slightest suspicion of wrongdoing or potential wrongdoing. It's not as if all these countries have any actual proof of anything. There are still in the neighborhood of 160+ countries using Huawei equipment.

BlackBerry is software and security. They don't make devices anymore. Their income is from what they do now, and haven't faded away since. BlackBerry mobile is TCL and other device makers, if you haven't been keeping track (yes, it's difficult, totally understand).
