    you know there are homescreen shortcut keys (if you disable dialing from home screen under phone options)

    D = memo pad
    B = Browser
    C = Compose Message
    M = Mail
    V = Saved Mail
    U = Calculator...
    Q = enable/disable vibrating
    L = calendar
    N = BBM
    A = Contacts
    K = Lock
    O = Options
    K = LOCK
    R = Alarm
    S = Search
    T = Task
    W = WAP Browser (if you got it)
    X = Win Live Messenger
    Y = Yahoo Messenger
    I = AOL IM
    H = Help

    and etc...

    well there are some available keys and I would like to set them to open particular application(s) that I use most

    In particular the "Text Messages" (I need to navigate to it every time)

    I use xSMS. It allows you to assign one free home key to jump right into text messaging. I've always used q.

    Naturally I checked the appstore here first but didn't get any results.

    yes indeed I have that enabled
    and that enables JUST the regular shortcut keys

    what I want to do is assign my OWN NEW shortcut keys - to open other great applications...

    hmmm I can't find xSMS on Appworld...

    I want to see screenshots

    read about it...

    read reviews... before paying and installing it on my device

    would you be so kind as to post some screenshots ? you can use free CaptureIt (google for OTA file)

    ...

    but in essence I'd love a functionality that it provides - to capture the homescreen keypresses and open the application that I want...

    (a bit like a convenience key)

    You can make a theme in which you can assign apps to certain keys.

    AppWorld, you can get MyOwnIcons_Light Or Pro. (Can't find out how to make it work with SMS)
    You can also Get QuickLaunch,
    You can Also Get Custom Themes.
    You can merge SMS and Message. (it makes things a lot faster.)

    Check out QuickLaunch- Buy QuickLaunch - Download QuickLaunch - Buy Apps from BlackBerry App World. Only thing being is that you would have to hit the space bar to open the app., then whatever shortcut key you've assigned. i.e. space,p=password keeper, space,c=clock. There is a ton of more stuff this app can do, check it out!
