Ya I got a thumbs up from a Metro officer when he saw my BT speaker phone. Maybe he was just glad that I was not talking to myself. LOL:D
I highly doubt any cop would ever target a BB user, because the vast majority of them probably couldn't care less. Honestly, we're the minority. To most people, a phone is a phone. If using a phone while driving is illegal in your area, they're gonna ticket you regardless of what type you're using.

We only get pulled over in CA if we're NOT using bluetooth or if we're texting. Other than that, they'd have no reason to pull you over. And if you're on bluetooth, chances are your BB is on your lap or the seat or in your console and a cop would have no clue WHAT kind of phone it is.
Depends on jurisdiction... OP is on Rogers which is Canadian so the laws may differ there.

On a serious note how would they know is a bb opposed to any other phone. So I guess I would say no cops don't target bb users.
Also using bt isn't illegal.... That's one of its selling points its "HANDS FREE"

Oddly enough, correct me if I'm wrong, but texting is not illegal in CA yet. I thought it was odd to make hands-free a law, but say texting is ok, for now.
I'm wondering why the OP hasn't corrected, commented or clarified his post yet. I'm starting to agree with Travis' very first comment.

Its a bit of a gray area - according to the LA Times, the bill was approved on a 25-14 vote but as of the end of August, Governor Schwartenager had yet to make a final decision. He's been pretty vocal about being against texting while driving though, so it's not likely he'll shoot it down.
In the meantime, I'm not taking any chances at all! I'll text and BBM at lights but that's it.
It is illegal, it's called "driving while distracted" which would also cover talking while holding your phone, your dog, your makeup, your burger, your taco, and anything else which occupies your attention while driving, which makes the entire bluetooth law redundant.
No, It's not law yet. true Arnold is sitting on it because he isn't signing anything until the budget is done. Meantime it's slated to be a law and inforced beginning January 2009 provided it's signed.

I will never understand that. Texting while driving is obviously more dangerous than talking on your phone. (I text at lights too.) I don't have to look at my phone to talk on it, nor use two hands. I saw a guy doing both (with 2 phones) on the freeway a couple of weeks ago and was pretty amazed by it.

Different places can have different laws. It CAN be illegal to talk on your cellphone while driving. I see the original poster is from Canada (rogers). Heck , I've heard goofy things like making ipod use illegal while driving.
Haven't gotten a ticket for it yet...but i will the day i rear_end someone while texting! I've had my fair share of close calls with my old phone with only 12 keys to worry about, but with the new curve...i'll try to wait for a red light!!!
Its illegal in Scotland [you have to use a hands free capability in order to avoid getting a ticket] to text or call regardless of whether you are stationary at lights or not. The law came in recently due to studies showing just how distracted you can be if you are using a mobile whilst driving. Mostly cops are too busy dealing with other more pressing jobs to be out sitting waiting for people driving past using mobiles. The public can report others for driving whilst using a mobile, but under Scots law, the report must be corroborated by an independent witness...more often than not there is no corroboration, hence no ticket / letter / ASBO warning.
I am from Canada, and NO it is NOT illegal in Canada to use your phone with a bluetooth headset.
Otherwise, yes it is illegal and you can get a ticket.
I also heard that they can take your phone, but I forget where or from who so don't quote me on that.

1) Why on earth would a Police Officer ticket someone using BlueTooth?? :confused:
2) How would a Police Officer know you are using a Berry when you are using it with a BlueTooth headset and driving?? There is no way they can possibly look into your car and see your device :confused:

Actually Bill is right there is a law on the books that says that you can be ticketed for driving while distracted but it is not a class one offense and there for not a reason for the officer to pull you over for. But if you make an illegal lane change while texting double the fine. The senate is trying to addend the hands free law to include texting as a class one offense which means if your phone is in your hand at all you will get pulled over. I was talking with a friend of mine husband who is currently on the Sacramento PD and previously an attorney with a large law firm (Ya i know I could not understand why he made the change but he claims it was for stress)
First, BB detector hee hee. Second, no tickets for BB use in my car here. In fact, no tickets. Knock on wood or a reasonable facsimile thereof.
A small Houston area community has banned cell phone use in school zones ( Video ) including the use of hands-free devices and text messaging.
I would think in a school zone paying attention would just
be plain common sense. Guess not.
