I bought my first blackberry last week and am hooked on it now. almost every kind of application I can think of is already present, except for one. With an unlimited internet plan from my service provider, it strikes me that a voice chat application (like skype or yahoo on a PC) would be just awesome. My voice minutes would not be spent if I could use it. But all my searching can't find something like that. The closest I found is IM+ for Skype. But IM+ uses SkypeOut minutes to call my blackberry from some other computer. So it will use up my voice minutes. Thats not what I am looking for. I am looking for a pure voice chat client.

Does anybody know if such a beast exists? Is anybody developing it? And if it does not exist, is there any legal reason?

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to CrackBerry.com!

I know that within OS 4.2 you can send voice notes in BB Messenger... not exactly what you are looking for, but close, and probably as close as you'll get.

a legal reason why no company develops a voice chat application? I guess it will be in direct competition with the voice plans offered by service providers. Voice chat is offered on skype, but only when connected to a wifi network using a wifi card from wifi capable phones. Are the current phone data speeds too small?

I would bet that EDGE is too slow, but maybe EVDO would work. As far as a reason why.. I have no idea why it's not developed. Maybe it is, and I just don't know about it.

FYI iSkoot for Skype offer skype capabilites based on Skype to skype calls (on outgoing calls), and call quality is much superior than other apps.
