I've been seeing a lot of news about tap and pay apps in Canada, but has anyone heard or seen any evidence of a push for tap and pay in the US? I've almost given up hope in the idea...

Many places I have gone to lately have an NFC capable card reader. I've just never seen anyone use it or have a way to myself.
It depends on the area. In major cities you see NFC terminals. But there are only about 200,000 out there now. Expect 500,000 locations by Jan 2015.

The Mastercard Nearby app on Gplay/Itunes show NFC terminals. You can also use the website and search by zip.
I meant tap and pay for BB10.... I've used Google wallet for years but didn't want to have to go back to an android phone to live the wallet-less life I had before.

That would seem unlikely unless/until there are more BB10 users in the US.

Sad. This is the future of payments. Regardless of Blackberry's user base, there are still millions around the globe. A non-bank specific app, available and usable by any BB user, anywhere on the planet, would be well received.
Nobody has a non-bank-specific app that works around the world yet. Apple is trying, but it's a huge undertaking against significant resistance. That's a huge, expensive effort that only a large company like Apple can hope to pull off.
Even Google hasn't been able to do this yet!
