Np, as for myself I never tweeted using my computer, I always seem to reach for my phone when I get a tweeter message.

Time to upgrade. Has any Blackberry users tried an Android phone? I'd like to know their thoughts if it's just as good as blackberry or do you suggest staying with blackberry?
Has your experience with the Tour been satisfactory?

Here are my experiences with Android phones and tablets:

If the Tour has soured your experience with Blackberry, then may I suggest you wait for new Blackberry Bold (much better than Tour) or new iPhone 5.

Huh? I think you might mean applications? For that most applications are free. You can with nearly all buy a non-add version. I don't have any issues with ads on my Droid at all.

I bought a 9700 in December of '09. It was the first smartphone I'd ever owned. I thought it was fantastic. But, wanderlust set in and the new generation of superphones (Android OS) began appearing on the horizon. I began to look at my 9700 with disdain. Internet browsing was my chief complaint. Besides, people were buying Androids by the boatload so they can't be all bad. I thought a touch screen phone would fill the bill. I bought an Atrix, the baddest phone ever made - I think. I had a month to make up my mind. I really wanted the Infuse but I didn't want to wait. I HAD to get rid of my BB. Without going in to specifics, every day I used the Atrix the less enamored I became. The things I didn't like about it began to pile up. My wife and grandson both have Captivates so I was no stranger to Android. Even when I used them (played around with), a little voice in the back of my head kept asking, "why is Android supposed to be the best OS in the universe?". Anyway, the phone went back to AT&T and to their credit, I was refunded every penny and in a timely manner. As the AT&T rep decommissioned my Atrix, I was dreading the thought of having to reactivate my old 9700 - BLECH. So, I walk out with my resurrected BB and think nothing more about it. As the days went by, it became very apparent that my old, slow 9700 could do things (and by things, I mean the things I wanted it to do) MUCH faster than the fastest phone in the world. It didn't load apps faster, internet browsing still sucked, memory was, and is, a joke, but when I needed to look at my calendar I only had to press the L key. Contacts, the A key. Dial a number, press and hold the number 2 (speed dial). Play music? Press a convenience key. Read my mail? Press the M key. All of this with one hand. Oh, type a message? Uh, I shouldn't have to explain that one. I didn't have to hold the phone in one hand and swipe the screen to find an app or a setting. I felt liberated and embarrassed for disrespecting my old faithful friend. That the Atrix is an Android really is of no consequence. Insert any brand name or OS of your choice and the story will remain the same. I am waiting for the next line up of BB's which should alleviate all of the hardware shortcomings that give me an ice cream headache. Shortcomings I gladly put up with because my little "Black Buddy" (ugh) fulfills every requirement I need from a phone. Including send and receive phone calls.

I would say that is the problem. I switch to a new battery every 12 to 18 months. I could be wrong but I think a new battery would do you some good at minimal expense.
I totally agree with both of you, thank you for your advice but I just don't want to pay $50 for a new battery what I'm going to be upgrading to the 9900 or the 9930 whenever it is available. I'd rather suffer through my poor battery life for one month then wasted on a new battery that I'm going to be getting rid of, unless of course the 9900 series is going to be using the same battery, which I highly doubt.

So I guess I will have to suffer through charging after charging. Any news on when the 9900 will be available? I've searched Blackberry site and on here but there just seems to be speculation.

$50? Are you buying a car battery or something? Hit Ebay for a cheap original replacement

I hate to chime in a little late but here goes- I have tried twice to switch to androids. I keep goig back to blackberry. Truth is, I hate the android system with a passion, and I love BB's. I hate the way an android feels, looks, and operates. Like I said, Ive had 2, and swapped them both for BlackBerrys. This will be the last try for me. Im saying with RIM as long as they keep making berries. I guess its all about what you are used too.

If you really cherish your privacy stay with bb. I bought a droid inc 2 just to see whT the hype was about and trust me i ran back to my bb bold 9930. The troll is correct in what they are stating about droid but what they are not stating is what can make you stay with bb. Droid by far is the most unsecure OS out there i can send you articles till you beg me to stop to include droid hacking increase by 400% but maybe the truth is not what some are looking for here but rather the "I have the latest toy" satisfaction. As for me security and productivity is my motivators to stay bb.

increased hacking on a system does not necessarily means it is more unsecure as one with less hacks.

It's like windows - Win7 is probably more secure as Apples OS for it's macs. Especily a few years ago when Apple really had not care about this issue, it just brings more money to find a hack for Win as for any other system. (I know unix, linux etc. but bugs are everywhere)

This a side I dislike social networks because I don't like to share everything with everybody, especially FB is the completley oposite of what I want.

As android is Google I also have some fears about this - and the not checked app store and the update politic of HTC, Samsung, Motorolla etc. and the carrier/provider is something I really don't like.

Here Google need to deliver security updates to every phone and this ASAP and not the provider or manifacturer - and this also more than 18 month.

Well, every single time that I use my Atrix for any period of time, which I find myself loving over the last couple of months, I end up having to deal with spam which does not come through on my BBerries. Latest incident were daily messages that showed up as a little green star notification on my screen. The notification said that I'd won an iPad from AT&T. The URL was one that was set up to look almost identical to AT&T's URL.
I copied and pasted the URL and sent it to the FCC. Next day got another little star message where it asked me to put my phone number. So I put in the number to the FCC.
Bought a 9860 and this morning....no random message.
Third instance of spamming on my Atrix which does not occur on my BB.
Love my Atrix, but third time using it and third time with spam. And my browsing habits are exactly the same, so no, no porn or questionable sites.

I've tried Android twice. Last time I spent the better part of two days digging through the app store looking for apps to provide the fuctionality that I require from my phone. I got close but not quite there, so I started looking around the internet for rooting instructions. I then realized that BB does everything that I NEED right out of the box and everything I WANT with the addition of a few apps. I'm perfectly happy with BB. It fits me to a T. I personally have no use for useless bling. I want a phone that was designed with communication and productivity as first priority.

Productivity-wise, I find BB lacking for me at this time. Not enough functionality for what I need to do. Email and communication on BB are kind of rudimentary in that it is not intuitive (in all fairness, I use Google-based email for work and personal).

I smile when folks say, empirically, "if you want a communications device, get BlackBerry." Depends on the user; that axiom isn't true across the board anymore. For simplistic communications, I find BB adequate, but in mobile world where advanced, varied communication is crucial, I find Android significantly better.

Simply put, I am far more productive on an Android device than on a BB, but that's me. YMMV.

And, while I know this will shatter the facade of BB security, no one's BB is more secure than my device. 400%? LOL, sure, Norton/Wavescure.

    To the OP...

I used Blackberry phones for years before switching to Android. I find myself far more productive on my Android device and enjoy the experience more than if you were to stick a Blackberry in my hand.

    Here is why:
I'm much faster at responding to emails and texts using swype on a virtual keyboard than using a physical keyboard

I enjoy spending time customizing my screens and having complete control over exactly how I want my phone to look.

    I like widgets

I like the large screen when I'm on road trips with my high school boys soccer team so I can play games and watch Netflix. Or I can hook my phone to my TV and use an external game controller to play games. I know some say "if you want a toy, go get..." Well, to me a toy is something that is in my sons toybox that if it breaks or gets thrown away, no big deal. I do not consider his DS or PSP or my PS3 to be toys. Just like I don't consider my laptop to be a toy because I can play games on it. They are expensive.

I don't have truncated emails anymore. On Blackberry, over half my emails were truncated. So I'd have to get on my laptop to even read my emails a lot of the times. This made Blackberry phones unproductive in this aspect. With my Android devices, I've never had a truncated email.

I really like having Google music so all my music is stored on my laptop and I don't have to save any of my music on my SD card. I don't have any music stored on my phone but I can listen to all my music using my phone. Same with pictures.

My email gets to me just as fast (but again, no truncation).

And occassionally I like being able to use my phone as a wireless mouse for my laptop and a remote for my TV.
