Malware infections on Android devices have been halved in 2014, so what do you guys think about this? Do you think it's because they've parterned with BlackBerry??

Android hasn't partnered with blackberry. Android is open sourced, so blackberry implemented a sandboxed runtime unto the OS, nothing more.

It's not because they've partnered with BlackBerry, but instead have increased measures to control submissions to the Play Store as well having implemented countermeasures into the OS should you install from third party repositories. If you have a Google certified device, any app you install, regardless of source, will also receive a scan for malicious code.

You can't put your trust on a vulnerable OS like Android. It will be hard for Google to clean up their malware problems because Android is too fragmented and I don't think Google have any control over the manufacturers anymore especially the Chinese brands that has recently popped up out of nowhere recently. Americans are so paranoid with Chinese implementing spying technology.

While it's true that Android has more malware than other platforms, the stories that talk about that always downplay the fact that nearly all of these viruses come from third-party app stores, such as 1Mobile, Get-Jar, etc. where there are few rules and even less accountability. The vast majority of infected phones are in east Asia. Your average western Google-certified Android device that uses the Play Store exclusively is quite safe, despite a handful of bad apps that have made the news.

Really, if Android was as bad as many here like to believe, who would actually use it? I've never heard of anyone having a hacked phone or a virus that compromised financial data or things along those lines, and that kind of thing would be big news. You also didn't see Google Drive or Google Photos hacked to release celeb nudes - that was iCloud.

The ironic thing is how often people recommend the use of 1mobile for BB users, even for apps that get very personal or financial data! That's like sending someone to the 'hood to buy jewelry on the corner with cash...

As far as I know, the BlackBerry partnership with Google was only something that was announced in February 2015, so it's not going to have any affect on 2014. The drop in malware infections as others have said, can be attributed to improvements in the OS, and Google taking more control of things including as of a little while back, review of app submissions. If an Android user only gets their apps from trusted sources like Google Play or Amazon, the chances of them getting malware are fairly slim. In fact, there is a setting in the OS that prevents installation from unknown sources (ie. 3rd party apps stores) - it takes actual user interaction to disable this.

But aren't Android apps sandboxed in BB10? And thereby oblivious to malware?

Android apps are sandboxed in Android too. Except where permissions are given, and people are giving the same permissions on BB10 as they do on Android...
