I am able to add numerous numbers to existing contacts by going to the Address Book, hitting MENU, then clicking "Edit." There is a lot of information that one can add to a contact on a BlackBerry.
Make sure you have the most up-to-date Operating System for your device. If you actually have a flaw, upgrades usually take care of them.
