My phone keeps shutting off for no apparent reason.
I will be in the middle of typing a message and then
suddenly the screen will go black for a few seconds,
then white and hourglass until I do a battery pull.

This is happening with increasing frequency,
and quite honestly is pissing me off.

Please tell me there is a solution for this...

What is your memory looking like? Sounds like you might be low on memory. Have you cleared your browser cache & deleted sent messages lately?

    What does this entail?
Is it a long process and
how do I go about getting it done quickly?

It's not low memory. I'm 25+ at the moment.

Pretty easy to update an OS. What are you running right now on your 8310? The newest OS out is 4.5.0.257 found at the top of this forum. Back up your phone & 3rd party apps, download the OS onto your PC, TURN OFF YOUR INTERNET, delete the vendor.xml file found in the Research in Motion folder in your Common Files on your C drive, then use the App Loader found in the same folder. Let it go...don't interrupt it or unplug until it's completely finished.

Could that really be the problem though?
At the moment, I'm running the original OS that came with the phone.
I can't really have my phone off for a lengthy period of time.

It doesn't take that long to update your OS...not like it's going to be off for hours, only about 20-30 minutes. Just a suggestion to your issue...you don't have to do it but will most likely help.

If you have a memory card in, take it out and run the phone
without it. There could be a corrupt file(s) causing this problem.

If it runs fine, copy your card to your hard drive, put the card back
in the phone and reformat it.

I'd definitely try this before upgrading.

    Hello Ken, it's been awhile...
    How have you been?
And as always, look at you swooping in and saving the day.
    Thanks, I'll try that first.

Been good young lady It has been a while indeed

Do give that a shot. It may not be the
answer but a lot of people (myself included) found it fixed the
    reboot problem.

It's 8310, not 8130, for whoever changed the title of the thread.

    I'm trying that now....
