    A 9780 and 32 gb Playbook or a Bold 9900?

I'm looking to get a BlackBerry again but I don't want to shell out for a brand new phone within a few months of Bb10 as I plan to upgrade as soon as it becomes available. So I have looked to kijiji and those are my would be choices.

I know the end decision is mine and that both OS's are being phased out. But I am curious if there are still users who are rocking the 9780?

I did have a 9900 but i was careless and lost it.

If I were you I would get the 9780 and the pb. Great combo and the pb will be getting bb10 after the phones come out. Best of both worlds.

I agree with the 9780 and the BlackBerry PlayBook you get the reliability of the 9780 and a long battery life, and you can use the PlayBook for web browsing which is the biggest downfall of the 9780.

The resale value of the 9780 and the 9900 will be close when the N series BB10 phone launches so getting a 9900 for resale value isn't worth the added cost,

    Doesn't the 9780 use OS7.1?

If that's not the case, he could grab a super-cheap and efficient 9320 in different colours.

The 9900 hands down. I understand the appeal of the playbook and 6 months ago I would have recommended that but while the PB will het bb10 realistically it probably won't be as good an experience on year and a half old hardware. I think RIM knows this and thus the spec bump on the 4g playbook.

Contrary to popular opinion (even in some circles on this site) there is nothing wrong with BBOS7/7.1. It lacks app functionality and wheynot but is still solid as a communication tool and will continue to be. And while it isn't under active development anymore (ie no significant changes in functionally) it is still being actively maintained and will be for at least a couple more years. It's the better overall buy.

9900 is a great device but the battery life of the 9780 and the playbook combo would win in my book.

I own a 9900 and a playbook. It would be painful to go back to the sluggy os6 from the speedy os7.

9900 is days ahead of the 9780 in speed.

It's all in what you need over what you want.

I bought Bold 9780 instead of 9900 primarily due to battery life, form factor & AF Camera in order. I plan on using it for 2-3years and i dont see myself buying BB10 asap.

    Note:1st timer on BlackBerry device.

I'd love a 9780 for a backup or spare device.

My only comment is if you take a lot of photos with your phone and are considering 9900, may want to consider 9810. I have 9900 and do not like the lack of auto focus. I take a lot of photos of parts for work and miss the camera on the 9800.

    9780 & the Playbook without a doubt....
...The 9780 still camera is light years ahead of the 9900!
...And you can take advantage of the 9780 battery which ROCKS!

It will depend on how you handle your hardware. Some people pick up good hardware when it reaches a year old or so. They get fair lifespan out of the device for a really good price. The 9780 & the Playbook 32GB is a good strategy. The Playbook should do well on BB10 and you could manage using it well over a year to two years. I went a different route by using the 9930 and the Nexus 7. The reason I went this way is because I really feel comfortable with the 9930 as a phone & message device. If the Playbook hardware had been close to the Nexus 7, then I may have stayed with it and made my open source linux activities work on the playbook. I'm expecting a mid-summer Playbook release packing some real hardware punch. With that in mind I will be able to sell the Nexus 7 for a good portion of what I paid for it. I am not as sure the Playbook could match it on a resale (next spring or early summer).
