I just nod my head and smirk, reading that most BB users would NOT pay a monthly fee for a custom PIN. As stated, this would be great in 2008-2011. BUt in 2015, where the masses are using Whatsapp mostly? Well, thats another topic.

But this brought up the question:

When did you gave someone your BBM pin?

I've tried but no one wants it.
Almost like the $CAD in the USA.

I am so behind the BBM concept! It is cool, secure and when I think of messaging I think of SMS and BBM! Period.

But you are right, nobody wants it! Last time I gave my BBM Pin was December 2013!

Unfortunately, it's been a while. It's my favorite although least used messenger. It's my opinion that BlackBerry did too little, too late. Most of my contacts use text first or fb messenger second.

Wow, the last time was when the 9860 (all touch BlackBerry) came out. Hence the reason paying for a custom pin was/is useless to me. Five or Six years ago I may of jump at the idea of paying for a custom cool pin.

    Interesting so far!

I am so sad, that I did not used a Blackberry in its heydays.

I was all for iPhone when it came out in 2008. Loved the design and the concept. At that time I had a blue BlackBerry with a scrollwheel at the side. I tested many devices. Always wanted a BB! Then the iPhone 2G came out. Sticked with iPhone until the iPhone 4!

Well, then 2011 I bought a Bold 9000 and later the Bold 9900! I wish I was at the time where everybody had a Blackberry BBM'ing the craze and for free.

Well, 2015 is still LIVE! And I handed out a Pin in December 2013 when I had my Z30 to my friend.

Tech world has no mercy. Imagine if BB would go cross-over with BBM in its hey days!!!!! The masses from Whatsapp would be here!

    Anyway, interesting trend so far.

I think the key is not most of us who live where BBM has seen it day. But in markets where BlackBerry still held some sway and where BBM is still a leader in the IM market. I think Indonesia might still be an area where BBM could see some potential growth... maybe. But then I'm not sure how many users there are going to pay for some cool custom pin every month either.

But hey I doubt it cost BlackBerry much to add the feature and even if they only get 1% of the BBM "reported" userbase to sign up for it.... that would be a few million dollars every month with very little cost.

Actually last week! My good friend moved to Japan and we've been using Line to chat and occasionally call, but the call quality was pretty bad so I suggested trying BBM. Pleased to say that the quality was excellent and it's now our preferred messaging app. But yeah, that's been my only new contact probably in the past year.

Does adding yourself to a friend's phone after coercing them to download BBM count?

Even then... I probably gave up about a year and a bit ago. The WhatsApp dominance is insurmountable at this point.

Pre shoot production meeting in NYC on Friday, I needed to add some new contacts for upcoming shoot, I suggested BBM the room went silent, then someone said do you have WhatsApp and life returned to normal, iMessage folks were also all about WhatsApp too. Now my count is:
    WhatsApp 137
    BBM 15 (lost one more).
Thou they still love to see my Z10 and it's abilities

It kind of depends what you mean. I'm never given my PIN to anyone specifically, but I do occasionally add people by NFC or tell them to invite me by email.

Unfortunately, my only current BBM contacts are some of my relatives (iPhone users) who I "forced" BBM on as the only method I would message with them. The last time I gave out my PIN was in December when I got my 2 kids iPhones.

I guess the last time I gave my PIN to anyone was when I gave it to my wife when I added BBM to my Android phone. That is only because she has my old BB 9900. Other than that, I honestly don't remember when I last gave it out.
