It should be a Web app. This will remove "friction" of downloading an app, and users can access it from anywhere. I hope BlackBerry does this.

BBM HAS COME TO THE DESKTOP!
I've been using BBM on my computers for over 4 months. with "Bluestacks". and the android BBM app. It works perfect and is a mirror of the phone app.
Bad idea. It would have no notifications, so completely useless as an IM app.

They should build it as a Windows 8 app. That way it will work on RT tablets as well. And then porting it to WP is a 10 minutes job.

But if it was open, wouldn't be able to notify you? Hangouts does it just fine...

I wouldn't mind it being a webapp either. I used to use AIM express both in a tab and popped out, and would see notifications fine. Oh how I miss the days of aim. Also had aim installed on my blackberry pearl first gen back in the day when I was in early high school and all the friends were very impressed at the speed that I could respond to their messages. They all didn't believe that I wasn't using my home desktop.
