BBM is back - TRUE
Sending / receiving messages is snappy - TRUE
It's free - TRUE
Bad Stuff
Ugly design - a personal opinion and subjective comment
Few features - it does currently have the basics and it has been widely advertised that more of the wanted feature are on the way
Not truly multi-platform - Aren't about 90% of the smartphones iOS and Android? I would say it's got most people covered and when Microsoft decides it's time to give a proper Skype app to BB then BB should return the favour. I know, childish.
Outdated friending system - I would call it a secure friending system. Personaly, I don't like how WhatsApp raids my contact list/info.
It's just as easy to be positive as it is negative.10-26-13 03:41 PMLike 0 -
BBM doesn't support (I'm aware you can fudge it on some tabs) tablets right now, or iPod Touches, and it has no Desktop or Web Clients. That hurts it quite a bit compared even to iMessage.
Hangouts also isn't completely/truly cross platform, but their web clients save users from a ton of headaches as well as the stiff functional Google Talk interop.
I'm of the thought that the UI looks like Poo. I've always said the Action Bar on BB10 looked ugly as sin and wasted a ton of screen real estate. There should be an option to toggle off the text in the Action bar, to shrink it down a little. It is just not attractive UI design iMo.10-26-13 04:08 PMLike 0 - agreed, i know many peopel that totally hate how whatscrap does friending. i'm in construction and i add alot of contacts for jobs i'm on for information, i don't need whatscrap addign them to my contact list when all i need the contact for is information based on the job i'm doing10-26-13 04:10 PMLike 0
- 100% correct! Cross-platform BBM does not helps to sell more BB10 devices. Definitely it helps migrate from BB devices to Android/iOS.
So, where is a profit?
If you get Apple device (for example), you've get iMessage and BBM. If you purchase BB device, you've get BBM only. Cross-platform BBM is benefit for Apple, not for BBRY.
CB10 - Z10 -10.2.0.172510-26-13 04:18 PMLike 0 - Good Luck to them with Channels (LMAO). They will certainly need it.
Samsung seems to be adding LivePartners in ChatOn at a decent pace, though. They have a ton of Tech Blogs there now, Associated Press, Vimeo, etc.
But they are getting things done, instead of just talking it up...10-26-13 04:20 PMLike 0 - If anyone is expecting The Verge to say anything positive about BBM and/or BlackBerry, you don't have your head screwed on right. Love those guys, but their dislike for anything BlackBerry is very OBVIOUS. Was funny though on their recent podcast where two of the guys talked about BBM'ing each other later. Don't believe the negative hype, BBM is a worldwide success right now and the userbase is growing exponentially. Momentum is going to slow down soon though and while they've promised Voice & Video Calling coming soon, I think the big game changer is going to be BBM Channels. They need to work on getting that cross platform, ASAP!!10-26-13 04:46 PMLike 0
- I've had the same problem tbh. I've almost had beg certain ppl to download BBM and when they do its the same **** 'oh it looks ugly", "what's so good about this, it's boring " and tbh it's tru the iOS and android version are lacking to many features. This isn't 2011 anymore. BlackBerry need to get these update Out ASAP, plus more
Posted via CB1010-26-13 04:51 PMLike 0 - It's been a long time since I don't even bother to read the Verge. They're a bunch of BlackBerry haters, and for me, journalism is about information, not one sided opinion.

I tell them that I might have the plumber's phone number in my smartphone or Google Contacts but I would never use WhatsApp to communicate with him. Just because he installs WhatsApp on his phone, doesn't mean that I want to see this or know about it. Likewise if someone has my phone number... I don't necessarily want them to know or see me on WhatsApp.southlander likes this.10-26-13 05:58 PMLike 1 - The definition of Multi-Platform is "more than one platform". - I'll do this 1 time . Why you still going to verge and what not for validation?? This is just the Internet its not the voice of the world. All that matters is your people use it and the download rate is high.
Tech blogging has gone down hill it isn't so much about information just opinion pieces and who's payed them extras for media praise. The actual product testing is abysmal. There's actual never discussions on future of anything like talk mobile did. What's out there as tech news is not quality. I just don't read reviews of anything I find out what works what does'nt and go test for myself always have done nothing beats personal hands on.
There's only so much trash you can post before people see ignorance and agendas. BBM got well over 10 million downloads and it's in the top apps page and with more improvements coming. Very few things take off the bat so 80mill to be working with is great.
All these complainers if your not happy, BBM is behind, doesnt deliver blah, blah. Why you talking about it why you still talking about this and that. Stop using it and remove the stress and us seeing your ******** post. I see the same folks that were saying it wouldn't take off are now rambling trash since they been shown up. If your not happy don't use it. The people have spoken with the downloads as more improvements come so will more downloads. Who said BBM had to be number 1?? There was multiple before what changes now BBM is out. It's gaining good numbers it's got good downloads will continue to do so. If you want to use viber or whatever things "everyone" is using go use it. Its not the end of the world. The rest of us will use what's best force us. We like BBM and that's that. Oh by the way if you think success comes instantly you should probably get of Internet and get into more real life.10-26-13 06:46 PMLike 0 - Yeah well folks are certainly downloading the crap out of it. We're all lectured about the wisdom of the masses when it comes to choice of products, by those who've left BlackBerry.
So perhaps none of these arguments really matter.
People, uninformed, or whatever anyone wants to call them -- want BBM.

For me, the only thing WhatsApp has going for it in terms of multi-platform instant messaging is that it is "easy" to chat/get friends/people in their contact list because it goes through your existing contacts and compares the phone number in your contacts/addressbook that you have for all your existing contacts with their database on users who have registered with the phone number.
I use WhatsApp myself (and I've used Kik, Touch, and Viber). The ease of getting people into one's chat contacts is appealing to many people. Most of my friends who use it, don't care/compare the other features... they use it mainly to text instant message chat and send the occasional picture which the majority of the chat programs do.
I'm trying to slowly migrate my friends from WhatsApp to BBM. I believe that once their annual subscription renewal comes up for renewal on WhatsApp, some of them will switch to BBM.10-26-13 09:51 PMLike 0 - I guess someone is upset that BBM can be used totally anonymously while with all other platforms you have to sign up for something and share some kind of a name.
PIN#: professional, anonymous, private.
All other apps you try, will go through your contacts and tell you who is using that app, you can add them, and then tell all those other people if you are a contact on their phone, when they load the app.. "Joe is also using the app, let's have a look at Joe's stuff, shall we?"10-26-13 10:48 PMLike 0 - PIN is a crap! I do not need to chat with unknown contacts.
After installing BBM I've got empty contact list. Now I calling my friend and tell them about BBM....
- Hi! BBM is there, want to try it?
- Why?
- It's secure, it's have group chat
- I don't want to have another chat client with empty contact list. I have WhatsApp, Viber, LINE for incoming chats.... Why I need to ask MY contacts about PIN, if I had it in my address book? It's useless. So, my decision is "No, I don't want it"
I understand my friend - he really don't need in another chat client from Stone Age. Too much steps required.
And more about privacy - I hate R status, seriously! For some annoying, but important contacts I don't want to show if I read their message or not.
- hey dude!!!
(I've read it and ignore)
- where are you?
(Ignoring)
- PING!!!!!
(Ignoring)
- why you don't answering to me? (I know - you're read my message, you're here!) You're ignoring me????!!!!!
Hate this situation!!! It's break my privacy!10-27-13 02:15 AMLike 0 - I have to admit it is buggy, it crashes often, it cant be viewed in landscape view, the rules about 30 members per group is hidden somewhere int the Forums Rules which if you look at the new bbm android members threads about joining groups, some have gotten to 10 or 15 pages of people waiting to join, and they dont even know the rule.......its not easy setting up groups, and adding members can be confusing to start off.......and there is no way to change the name of a group, which is really frustrating. Plus adding second admin can be really dangerous since the second admin can delete other admins, which should be something that is fixed. Just a few things that really bug me........as a new user.10-27-13 03:35 AMLike 0
