Allegedly, a former BlackBerry contact of mine installed Viber on his phone; was prompted for his BlackBerry ID, which then pulled in his former contacts. I saw him in my new contacts, as I had previously issued him an invitation presumably, and we were able to chat. His blank avatar was red, which was my first clue that this might be an anomaly.

I wasn't aware that Viber, or any other chat client, could "talk" to BBM?? Any thoughts?

Yes they can. Use whatsapp. Whatsapp links both viber and bbm users together.

Anyone in UK have any knowledge regarding Viber and BBM being interconnected, or somehow talking across platforms?
