What would the difference be between a poke and a ping?
I don't think blackberry needs to bring back a feature from the old days of facebook personally
What were pokes even used for in Facebook?
You can make an auto-text of anything you want.
Make it for example if you type the letter "P" then hit space it turns into "POKE!!!" and send hundreds of them :P

Pokes in facebook were for people who didn't have the balls to actually message a girl, instead they would poke them.
I'm not sure what they were intended for originally, but that's mostly how they were used. They were private, so when you logged on you could see who poked you, but it wasn't on your profile or anything.
