I believe they should have limited the amount of time messages an unsubscribed user can send, BUT leave those unsubscribed users with the ability to retract as many messages as they need.
So basically bundling the timed messages feature and leave the message retraction feature for free...

    Hello,

The only problem I have with this update is that all my contacts show the green voice chat option as available and that is not accurate at all. Hope they fix it as soon as possible. Not knowing who is really available is a big problem.

Before you guys complain about these paid stuff... do you really NEED those feature as opposed of simply wanting them for the sake of having too many features?

A previous question was asked about how many retracted and timed messages can be sent on the new version?

Also it's not about being spoiled. Either offer it for free to us BlackBerry users OR setup a one time payment of $0.99-$2.99. I bet you BlackBerry would make more money this way.

    This $0.99/month is bonkers.

Most of my apps are native and they are paid ones. Nothing cheap over here

BlackBerry will continue until some of us take our 'spoiled' behinds elsewhere.

EDIT: Wait... that's already happening (or has already happened)
And pay there too. If it's Apple it is exorbitant prices for their new phones etc.

You are fooling your self if you think it's free elsewhere.

And for once I am hopeful and feeling better about BlackBerry's chances and where they are going.

As long as they make a phone I am going nowhere. And no that is not blind loyalty. I like BB10. They have been listening. Returning bbos features, innovating, a la passport etc.

I think things are looking up and I am staying to enjoy the ride.

I haven't updated BBM yet to keep the "free" stuff, but how much is the subscription anyway? If I go to the shop and hit subscribe it tells me I need to update first.

Edit: just updated, it's 99cents, I don't use the feature often but what the heck I subscribed anyway.

    It should be $0.99/month.

It's also stated there might be a limited amount of timed and retracted on the free version but I'm waiting for a confirmation about this.

I don't understand the discourse. Everyone was told they'd be paid features eventually anyway lol. They actually gave them to you free longer than the expected timeframe. I guess I just don't care because I had no intent on ever buying or using them anyway. \_(ツ)_/

For those people who dont want to pay the subscription, which I agree is over overpriced for what you get, simply get your contacts to switch to one of the other messaging apps out there that has the feature set and price you want. BBM needs users to have value, so a large group of users walking out might be enough to convince Chen that there are other, easier ways accomplish whatever financial goals this nickel-and-dime subscription strategy is meant to accomplish.

I'm not too upset about subscription only features but I kinda wish they'd take away the "timed" messages icon for those who didn't subscribe so the message box is bigger.

I actually love this discussion. We see BlackBerry Fans on both sides, sharing their views respectfully. One thing I think we all have in common is that we would love to see the perpetuity of BlackBerry.

...and like I said, even though I think this update is more of a downgrade, who am I to tell a company how to run their business?

This update is totally useless as I don't use the timed or message retraction.

The ability to locate your contacts & chat with them is redundant coz on a quarter of my contacts who keep my email on their devises will be effected. From there only maybe 2% of them have BBM.

So probably only 0.5% of my contacts has the possibility of contacting me.

The thing that sucks is that they made them free and available unlimitedly to everyone and they just took them away... not a smart thing to do even if they warned about it. I say they shouldn't have made them free from the first place. Their logic is so-not-logic...
