Can't believe one have to pay a subscription for video calls and for the timed messages and retraction of message! I will not pay! Disappointed in BlackBerry! Whatsapp is winning this round, I'm already making calls on whatsapp.

    This round?

    Lol..

BBM is trying to make money like if it could take growth for granted (cable company mentality). They really need to focus on growth like if they could take money for granted (i.e. Silicon Valley startup mentality).

Look at it this way. The original BBM didn't have "Retracting and Timed Messages". That is just an extra BlackBerry threw in there, so not sure what there is to miss. Plus BlackBerry made it clear from the beginning that these features would eventually be paid features.

Other than SnapChat I don't know of any other Chat app that even has this feature. So I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about.

Maybe I just don't use it as much and it's not as important to me, don't know, just don't see why everyone is appalled, we always new it would be paid.

You can delete WhatsApp messages as well, and it's for free!

You do know that deleting a message on WhatsApp only deleted the message on your phone. Not on the other person's device.

Compare to no ads in WhatsApp and $.99 a year subscription, BBM is a let go.

Lol! The red spark on the BBM Shop is the reason why I dont use BBM in the app anymore. Only via HUB. And because of that....I dont use/watch BBM Channels anymore! But its OK. I dont miss them!
Another paid options like time messages...Ok so I wont use them anymore!!
Is that what BBM is fighting for? To make us (not so many) users angry?

I will pay only for BBM Protected. Thats one year subscription and I hope it's really safe.

New BBM Beta Release this week..-img_20150406_173923.pngHi All,

10.8 is now available in beta!* Were eager to hear what you think before this version of BBM is widely available.

    Whats New this Build?
Chat with people outside of your BBM Contacts! Chatting with new friends is even easier. This new version of BBM allows you to send and receive messages with email contacts in your address book that are not yet BBM contacts. Youre always in control - these extended contacts wont be able to see your profile picture or status updates until you add them as a BBM contact which can be done easily with the push of a button.
    *
There is just one limitation to keep in mind when testing:
******** Both sender and recipient must be using latest beta in order to take advantage of this feature. Otherwise, starting a chat with extended contact will result in a prompt for invitation.
    *
Remember - Timed and Retracted Messages is now a *subscription item available in the BBM Shop. Subscribing will allow you to get unlimited access to Timed Messages and Message Retraction. Non-subscribers will be able to Retract a maximum of 3 Messages and send a maximum of 3 Timed Messages.
    *
    Known Issues
******** Adding contact by PIN only shows hex keyboard which means user cannot add contacts with vanity PINs
    *
    Installing BBM
1.****** Open the Beta Zone app on your BlackBerry 10 device and look for BBM (v10.8.3.6, 10.8.4.5, 10.8.5.5, 10.8.6.5).

I have been trying to understand what the whole "chatting with people that aren't in your BBM contacts", but I guess someone will either explain when installed or I will have to experiment with it when it is officially pushed via BlackBerry World.

If they meant that I can send messages to someone I have their email but not as a contact on BBM itself, then that is awesome news! Can't wait for advertisements of Viagra pills reaching me. I received a couple of advertisements from Indonesia via pin-to-pin messaging, but this will make them even better and more efficient.

Sounds like it basically does what Whatsapp does with phone numbers in your contact list, except BBM is using emails.

Honestly they should have done that from the day they rolled out cross-platform bbm. That way people on iOS and Android trying it out just out of curiosity wouldn't have had completely empty contact lists (which is the wonder of WhatsApp for lots of people that install it for the first time).

They definitely missed the boat on that one... yet again.

Cross platform video is dead, and retraction and timed messages will cost money. Therefore none of those things is relative.

If that is the case, then things will not look good in the near future. I wonder what the next new feature for BBM will be.

I was wondering of that, but I guess they can force the settings to work on everyone via the servers.
