So I am new to BBM and I am curious just how secure is the standard bbm software out the gates? Compared to other messaging apps out there.

Generally speaking BBM messages can only be viewed by your carrier and BlackBerry. BBM protected can only be viewed by BlackBerry.

I know that BBM uses the same encryption standard as that of Visa & Mastercard internationally. I know this because I used to help set up credit card products for banks, this was my specialty. So if it is secure enough to do my purchase transactions I suppose it will be secure enough for my communication.

If you use BBM Protected they seem to have another layer of security on top of that, I don't know what it is and am not really bothered about it.
