I think this is a fair question, considering that as a BB user I am asking my ios friends to install BBM. So, if it were reversed what would you do?

What's the features of imessage? (key factor) can you set statuses? Avatars etc..

Depends on how it would work, like would it be using your # like whatsapp?

I don't think I would, with bbm on iPhone and Android, I would not install Imessage to just talk to iPhone users,

Pre-BBMx I would have, but the people who have iphones that I would instant message with have all installed BBM, so I don't need it - and I prefer BBM (FWIW, I only have iMessage on my iPad, I don't have an iPhone). That said, if FaceTime came before BBMx has voice and video chat, I'd install that.

No, I don't like how it ties up your mobile phone number and then makes it near-impossible to remove your phone number from their list.

No, once you add your number, if you don't have data it can hold messages, and I don't like how they're routed through Apple, not sure if, but they most likely are harvesting messages.

And most important of all, it's a pain in the but to figure out how to logout of their imessage eco.

No need for me. Not even before bbm went cross platform. I was using sms for the iPhoners and it worked just fine

I'd give it a try, but most likely end up uninstalling it. I appreciate the ability to add people by email addresses and all, but BBM IMO is better in the privacy regard because a PIN is much more impersonal.

And I'd probably use it to message other people with iMessage only...that is if they don't have BBM or even Whatsapp already. No way would this become my #1 option.

Not a chance! I deal with too many customers that complain about iMessage thinking their phone is an iPhone when its not so they do not get messages. All the iPhone users tell them that it is a problem with the non-iPhone users phone and to take it for repair. This happens daily where I work.

No chance. We use iMessage in our office for our pager system. It is a disaster on too many levels in addition to being tied to Apple. I will stick with BlackBerry or plain vanilla texting.

Heard a lot of complaints about iMessage, from iPhone users. Not sure it's the best solution for cross-platform messaging.

No, especially now that they took away the features to leave the chat window open with the user if you clear all the previous messages. If I do that now I have to start a new chat window. Don't see the sense in using a program that creates additional steps to use. But that seems to be apples way. With the home button anyways.

I highly doubt you would ever see Apple create a version of iMessage for any other platform, as it would contradict and negate their closed garden strategy. It would have been like Microsoft designing Internet Explorer for OS/2 back in the day.
