Thoughts on adding this status. You can see that someone reads a message but what about the reader sees that you saw it was read.

Seems a bit redundant really. The sender should be the only one with any interest in knowing when a message has been read.

Dunno that I'd be a fan of that. As it is now, it's annoying when you read a message, deem it not too important and decide you'll address it later at a more convenient time, then get bombarded with more messages bugging you to address it now (some people feel their time is more important than yours). I'd sooner see an optional feature where Read receipts are only sent when the receiver manually confirms that they read it.

The idea must have been missed.

You have read (receiver read)

What we don't know is if the user who sent the message acknowledged that the user saw the message.

Aside from the emotional value of this additional "transaction" there is a productivity value to this.
