I started using BlackBerry mobiles because I wanted a fighting chance against Google.

I wanted to be absolutely certain that no matter what not a crumb of data about anything to do with my mobile left my phone. I'm not doing anything iffy I just want my phone to be as secure as pen to paper. No gps if I don't want. NO GOOGLE!, Secure from governments and hackers, I thought BB would build DTEK from the very basic android system making it private even from Google, but they didn't.

I have a key2 I've turned off everything to do with google without rooting it. I download straight apk files. I monitor everything. I'm sick and tired of android sending out data burst every 30 seconds for reasons I don't want and not having the ability to turn it off, which half's my battery life as all data has to go through my VPN it now has to stay on all the time draining power. I'm angry system ui uses the most power over android systems.

I can't use BBM Enterprise as I don't have have google services.

Looks like it's bye bye BlackBerry. I've already started looking for a replacement of what BB uses to be probably going to start using Silent Phone unless anyone has any ideas??

I want to hear what you all think???

if you don't want google at all, why droid? (you know it is google made?). do you have whatsapp or facebook? if you do, what make you think it is secure not selling your data? if you really don't want your data being used and tracked, BB10 (5 yrs old) OS fit the bill, but not much app ecosystem - you still have to watch what you click on "agree" button when you download anything. (most of the game nowadays got feedback tracking, especially freebies).

I was looking at BB10 but isn't blackberry stopping that system?

What other phones and systems do you all recommend?

Depending on what you mean by "...not a crumb of data...", I think you are out of luck in today's day and age, regardless of what phone/device/OS you might use. At best, I would think that even if not a single crumb of your "personal data" is directly shared with third parties (from out of your phone/device as a result of device/OS methods), you are still leaving crumbs all over the place. The entire system is setup to build and amass their own crumbs of data into an entire bakery full of shelves and racks of itemized bread loaves, on even completely "anonymous users" (carrier users, internet users, app users, email users, sms/text users, porn users, secure VPN users, on-line shopping users, etc...) and apparently, the ease at which those slices of bread can be reasonably closely matched to actual real world people is scary.

What method are you using to monitor connections? I may have some recommendations.
My Key2 now sends just 2 system related connections, one to a time server, another when I require to Qualcomm for GPS constellation data. I've disabled everything else.

Even with 24/7 Orbot and Firewall running, I still get 1-2 days of battery life with 5-8 hours of screen-on-time depending on usage.

You can use BBM Enterprise without Google Play Services. In fact it works better than all other messaging apps when Play Services is off because it doesn't rely on it to push messages.

To get BBM Enterprise you'll need to contact a BB sales rep directly to subscribe. Unfortunately I don't know if they will offer the individual "prosumer" rate via this method, but you can certainly subscribe to the full "Corporate" rate which gives more functionality anyway.

Looks like it's bye bye BlackBerry. I've already started looking for a replacement of what BB uses to be probably going to start using Silent Phone unless anyone has any ideas??
There is no android device on the market that is as secure as a BB. Unfortunately, BB has left the privacy portion up to the user (despite what they advertise).
Using a combination of Tor, Firewall, Browser tracker blockers and disabling system apps will achieve what you are looking for while still having a secure device.

Installing a firewall was exactly what I was looking for. Now do you have any idea how I can run a VPN firewall and a normal VPN like nord or orbit and the same time??

Well it just seems to me that some VPN service providers end-up with opportunities to have lots of traffic passing through them.

The setup described in the link is a non-root-Firewall (netguard) that uses the android VPN service to control connections, which then routes permitted connections on to Tor (orbot). This is the only way we can do this on a Blackberry device which cannot be rooted.

The only way to run a simultaneous Firewall and VPN is by rooting a phone and using a root-required-firewall app like AFWall+ which modifies IP tables. This leaves the android VPN service available for a true VPN connection.

    Cheers

You can't root a Blackberry, that's part of the reason why it's secure.

Silent circle with the blackphone had the best intentions, but shortly after it was released, it was rooted. It's also discontinued.

Blackberry has far more experience in this arena than any other startup "secure" smartphone manufacturer in my opinion.

So I don't think you will find a more secure device than a BB.

However, if you are more worried about privacy than device security, then you could buy any rootable android phone (which ideally also gets regular security updates). Once it's rooted, you can delete all the bloat ware and install AFWall+ and use a VPN plus Orbot simultaneously.

That said, you can get the 99.9% privacy solution with a BB Android while leveraging it's strong security even though it can't be rooted.

Here is a post with links to How-To posts regarding BB android privacy.

Chetmanly you are an absolute legend. You have answered a world of questions I've been asking for years. You seem to know exactly what's going on and especially what I want. Man, I hope BB hires you before whom ever is steering this titanic sees it inundated.

Can I dream of a new BB with firewall built in or is that to much?

    A key3 with 100% control would be a dream.

    thanks again Mate

There are a handful of users on here who have asked for the same thing over the past couple of years. We've suggested it would be a perfect addition to DTEK and ideally it would use IP tables rather than the VPN service in order to keep it free.

    Glad I could help!

    Cheers

Why not Apple if looking for the level of security you describe? Apple famously opposes law enforcement or so I thought?

Apple is too restrictive plus it can be jailbroken. plus it's a $1000 over prices for the simple reason it wants to be the premium phone so people can show others how rich they are and I'm a practical man.

I’d have to disagree on pricing aspect. I paid $750 USD here for two iPhone XR on a BOGO free deal and it was possible on the XS and XS MAX as well. At $375 USD per device that’s same that I’ve paid for both my KEYone, $750 USD this past 18 months, $500 then $250 USD so equal bargain/cost to me.
