My son is trying to install BBM on his iPhone 5 and gets stuck on the "Setting Up BBM" screen. Any ideas?

I just realized he doesn't seem to have cell service in his dorm room and is on the college's wifi. Perhaps that could be the problem?

Don't think so. Just had my friend who is having the same problem try it on her data (was using Wi-Fi before) and still no dice :/

KB35114-BBM for iPhone or BBM for Android does not proceed past the “Setting up BBM” screen

I think someone in a different thread tried this and it didn't work. But I'll pass it to my friend and see what she says.

Yeah I have friends who have this issue and I would like to see if I can get them up and running. Anyone with more tips? Previous ones haven't worked so far.

I had the same problem with my phone, my phone is jailbroken and I had iApfree installed and enabled, I disabled it and respringed my phone and it worked. Hope that helps.

So here goes:

- deleted BBM for the ump-teenth time
- reinstalled BBM for the ump-teenth time
- Wifi AND mobile service both on

And it just came to life! So weird but we got the "you're first in line" email 3 days ago and have been trying since then. We didn't do anything different this time vs the last umpteen times we tried to install over the past 3 days but for some reason, it came to life.

Only useful advice: persistence pays off.

Out of curiosity, we're you logging in with a really, really old BBID that hasn't been used in a long time in hopes of getting your contacts back? My friend was trying just that. My thought is that the old IDs have been retired due to non-use. Try creating a new BBID and see if that helps.

Nope -- brand new BBID as my son couldn't even remember the sign-in details of his original BBID from when he had a BB.

I just ran into the OP's exact same problem setting up my GF's iPhone 5 running iOS 7. I simply deleted BBM, re-downloaded and used the BBID that I set up with the original install. It worked with no trouble.
