Hopefully there is a way we can modify the APK? What would BlackBerry be using that 2.2, 2.3 and 3.0 don't have in the API? I am sure it's possible, but maybe they just did not want to test it?

Tried with my wife's 2.3 HTC Incredible 2.

    Error I get is:
    Parse Error

There is a problem parsing the package.

Is this something I can fix by reworking the Android Manifest in the APK?

    Remember...
You must have at least 512mb of ram on your phone. I found it very buggy for phone with ram below that.

I have tried to install the .apk on Samsung Galaxy Ace with custom CM 10.2 ROM, and resulting no success... perhaps because of the tiny amount of RAM. Anyone else tried?

BBM should hopefully have released to Android 2.3 at least... There are many other people who use that version and its nice too...

I know this is an enthusiasts site, and I am one myself. However, I only run a Virgin Mobile 2.3 Android. Why? Because, it's a BACKUP phone, not my primary. Also, I'm on Virgin's GRANDFATHERED $25 unlimited Droid plan. If I upgrade the phone, I lose the plan. And why upgrade? The phone does everything I need it too. BBM not withstanding.

I have read reports - from sources that should know - that say a BULK of the Android toting world STILL are on 2.x OS. A LARGE BULK. I'm one of them, obviously. If this is true, then BBM for Android is going to be a BUST for a while, until THE BULK of Android users upgrade to an OS that can run BBM.

Berry may have missed the Android boat on this one.

For a while anyway. The ship may have sailed beyond the horizon on Droid before "The Bulk" catch up to it.

Surprised no BBM on Windows Phone yet. This is a growing demographic, again, myself included. I'd run it on my WP8 for sure. Although, I've also read that a version for WP8 may be on the horizon soon.

The BULK of Android users who are alive as of October 2nd are on 4.0 or greater. Only 30% are on lower versions and that number is shrinking. Why would BlackBerry both to go there unless it was for PB too. Wouldn't that be something, BBM for PlayBook as a port.

It won't happen and doesn't make sense.

The articles I have read say something quite completely different for true world-wide distribution.

Your link is a 7 day random sample based on download of apps in ending in early October of this year. Most 2.x users have all the apps they will ever use. I have not downloaded any apps to my 2.x Droid in over a year.
Sure, in that random sample, it makes sense that most of the downloads were 4.x as THAT is what is selling. You get a new Droid? Of COURSE you have to download new apps. Not if you are on an old Droid. Many of us don't even bother to update apps, especially, like me, if your Droid is a backup.
But it does not really matter. I don't have a dog in this fight.
I'm dumping my Droid next year anyway, just milking out the last of the $25 unlimited from Virgin before the phone bites the dust permanently.

Back to BBM. I'm not really seeing any value in this app, but hope I am wrong. I still tote a Berry as one of my phones. Never use BBM. Have heard they are developing a BBM app for WP8 - my "new" backup phone.

    Time will tell.

    Let's hope it catches on.

Hi Bhagyashree - First of all I want to inform you that rooting a device means you are violating your phone warranty.. Even though if you want to root your phone and upgrade it to latest Jellybean then follow the below links:

    2. Upgrade Galaxy ACE to Gingerbread 2.3.5 | How to Root & Unroot Guide

P.S. I also upgraded my Galaxy Ace S5830 from 1.something to Gingerbread and then now to Jellybean 4.2.2 but still bbm doesn't installed and gave "parse error". Do reply if anyone finds solution for this..
